BEN DAVIS LIONS CLUB CARD PARTY The Ben Davis Lion’s Club will hold a card party in the Ben Davis High School Gym on Thursday evening, March 25, from 7:30 p.m. There will be tables of Euchre, Bridge, Canasta, Pinochle, and Bunco. Prizes will be given and refreshments will be available. Proceeds from this party will be used toward the purchase of a movie projector for one of the churches in the community. Posters for this party were made by the high school art classes, supervised by Mrs. Faye Nelson. Best poster awards were made to Geraldine Glidewell and James Hoffman.

Doyle Zaring, secretary-trea-surer of the Indianapolis Life Insurance company, will be the general chairman of the annual Y.M.C.A. membership campaign, which will be held this year from March 24 to April 19. been arranged with the entire program being devoted to selections by Serge Prokofieff. The famous composer, who died one year ago, was a fellow student of Dr. Sevitzky’s at the St. Petersburg Imperial Conservatory in Czarist Russia. Included on the program will be the Concerto No. 3 which was the last concerto composed by Prokofieff, and the Symphony No. V which was his last major symphony. Also included on the program will be the Suite of Waltzes which will be receiving their American premiere in this pair of concerts. Johannesen, who will be making his first appearance in Indianapolis, won first prize in the International Piano Competition in Belgium in 1949. He is the only pianist of his generation to be heard regularly on the Telephone Hour, and he has appeared with most of the major Symphony Orchestras throughout this country

Livingston and nephew, Donald, 5013 W. 14th St., attended the second night showing of the Jordan River Review at Indiana University Saturday night. The review was shown at the auditorium Friday and Saturday evenings and will also be shown this week the 17th, 18th 19th and 20th. A one hour version of the production will be presented over station WTTV, Bloomington, Sunday, March 21, starting at 1 p.m. Julian Livingston, a graduate of Speedway High School and now a senior at I.U. is one who produced the material for the
review, having composed much of the music. He is also the music director for the production. Thomas Richards, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl F. Richards, 1664 Gerrard Street, Speedway, has pledged the Alpha Tau Chapter of Theta Xi Fraternity at Indiana University. Tom prepared for college at Speedway High School and he is now majoring in Marketing at Indiana University’s Business School. Ronald C. Urban, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen C. Urban, 5131 W. 15th St., has also pledged the Alpha Tau Chapter of Theta Xi Fraternity. Ronald also graduated from Speedway High School where he won two varsity letters in football. He is majoring in Business Administration. Both boys are freshmen in the class of 1957. Mr. and Mrs. John King of Lakeland, Florida, announce the arrival of a boy, Mark Mann King, born February 26th. Proud grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Bob Mann of W. 15th St., and Mr. and Mrs. Foy King, formerly of Speedway.
Marcia Henderson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Henderson, former residents of Speedway, has been chosen a new member of Wakefield School of Honor Society. They were chosen on the basis of Scholarship plus Service, Character, Leadership and Citizenship. Marcia is a member of Job’s Daughters of Speedway lodge and was in the Speedway Girl Scout Troop before moving to Tucson, Arizona. DUKE ELLINGTON TO PLAY FOR BUTLER PROM Nationally known Duke Ellington and his band will provide music for the Butler University Junior Prom Friday from 9 to 12 p.m. in the Indiana Roof. MUSICAL GROUPS FROM JORDAN TO VISIT SCHOOLS Butler University’s Jordan College of Music will provide the best in music to hundreds of Indianapolis grade and high school students during March and April. Two musical groups from Jordan are visiting various schools this month and next to play before all-school convocations.
