Citizens Gas & Coke Utility Report The report filed today with, the City Controller by the Citizens Gas and Coke Utility Board of Directors for the first quarter of 1953, showed a balance of net income of $1,217,334.00 after provision for Bond Retirement. This compares with the balance of net income of $1,446,101.00 for the first quarter of 1952. Gas sales were up $157,000 to $2,657,000, while operating expenses increased $334,000.00 and provision for contributions in lieu of taxes increased $61,000.00 to $201,493.00. On June 1, $509,000.00 in Revenue Bonds will fall due for retirement. In addition to these bonds the Board of Directors has called for payment $2,639,000.00 of 1948 bond series, maturing June 1, 1960 through June 1, 1969. These bonds are callable at 104 this retirement will result in a net interest saving to the Utility of $944,102.50. Total bonds outstanding in the hands of the public as of June 1, 1953 will be $8,637,000.00. These bonds are not subject to call and will be retired according to serial maturities each year through June 1, 1967.
