St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church (Continued from Page 1) You, your friends and neighbors will not want to miss this jubilee service. Only a few can say they were present at the formal organization of the congregation, but now you can you were present at the 10th anniversary which in years to come will be Em honor akin to charter membership. A VENTURE IN FAITH Beginning March 2 and continuing for three months, St. Andrew’s will conduct duplicate services each Sunday morning. The 10:45 A.M. Service and Nursery will continue as usual. Added to it now will be a duplicate service at 9:30 A.M. This early service will be a unified service with the Primary Department and up of the Sunday School worshipping with adults. Later they will adjourn to their classes. The Nursery and Beginner Departments will conduct their school as usual. All other children and adults will assemble in the church at 9:30 A.M. The most prominent advantage of this Venture in Faith will be to allow families to worship together, children and parents. Now, two acts of worship can be consummated at one time, with one trip to the church and in one hour. Children can attend Sunday School, parents can attend Church Services —ALL in one trip and in one hour. Advantages are legion. Now, everyone can choose his hour of worship. Probably adults with older children or with grown children will continue to prefer the 10:45 service. Still, on some Sundays, they too may prefer the earlier hour of worship. The church’s only desire is to serve everyone in the best possible way. Another advantage is that the duplicate services will give us em opportunity to grow. During the last couple of months, attendances have been such that we could not accommodate too many more worshippers without overcrowding. The Council feels that overcrowded conditions would tend to militate against larger attendances. To offset any discouragement to attend church that overcrowding might bring, this’Venture in Faith is entered. An Emalysis of the attenders at our service reveals that only about 25% of our members attend church on any given Sunday morning. Why? Many answers could, of course, be given. But, the one answer that the Council has in its control is “convenience.” They wish to make it as convenient as possible for everyone to attend, with or without children to consider. The Council also wishes to thoroughly integrate the Sunday School children into the worship experience of the church. The children are not a separate part of the church. They belong with the church. We hope that one of the long range results of this move will be to counteract the post confirmation lag in the children. A more natural transition will be furnished for them, first to the church through its worship and then to its teaching on an adults level. As they progress through ciasses geared to their age level they will eventually find themselves part and parcel of the church. This is an Adventure in Faith. We have no assurance that this is the best move at the moment because we are not forced, into it. But, we believe with all our hearts that Christ has* opened to us a door of opportunity that must be entered. In faith then, believing this to further His Kingdom among us, we venture forth! May God bless our efforts and crown them with success as only He can do.
