(Proof of last Friday’s ad) SHAMROCK IS NOT FOUND ONLY IN IRELAND There is no plant known as Shamrock which is peculiar to Ireland. White clover, known in various sections of Ireland as Shamrock, grows abundantly in the United States. The name of Shamrock is most commonly given to one of the hop clovers, widely diffused over Ireland, but not peculiar only to it. 1. “Handy Book of Curious Inforrrtation”—W. S. AIR RESERVE INFORMATION I The Air Force has established June 30, 1952 as the official date of transfer to the Inactive Air Reserve for Volunteer Air Reserve Officers who have not qualified for retention of their assignment. To retain their assignment Vol-, unteer Air Reservists must maintain their proficiency by earning at least an average of 15 points annually or a total of 45 points during any 3 year period. Points for proficiency should not .be confused with the 15 gratuitous points for retirement awarded annually 'for merely being a member of the Volunteer Air Reserve. Proficiency points for Volunteer Air Reservists are computed annually by their major air command on the anniversary date of their assignment to the Volunteer Air Reserve. For the majority of officers presently in the Volunteer Air Reserve, the anniversary year for retention began on July 1, 1949. "

Volunteer Air Reserve officers may still obtain sufficient points to qualify for retention, through completion of extension courses or participation in inactive duty training activities, prior to the transfer date. In those cases where the reservist desires to make application for extension courses, they may address their inquiries to Headquarters, 2d Air Reserve District, 30 W. Washington sfreet, Attention: O&T Office. One other method of retaining their active status in the Air Force Reserve is for reserve officers of the Volunteer Air Reserve section to obtain an assignment in one of the TO&E Reserve Training Wings, a Volunteer Air Reserve Training Unit, or by obtaining a mobilization day assign-

ment or designation with a Regular Air Force organization. Individuals so assigned will not be liable for earning the required total number of points until 3 years from the date they take up theirmew assignment Requests should be submitted to the numbered Air Force headquarters having custody of the individual master personnel record for a position as a mobilization day assignee or designee. Requests for assignment to one of the Reserve Training Wings should be made to the Air Force Reserve Training Units nearest their home. Volunteer Air Reserve Training Units are located in most major cities and positions within these units are available for those reservists desiring assignment Volunteer Air Reservists who do not meet the criteria for retention in the Volunteer Air Reserve will be transferred to the Inactive Air Reserve on June 30, 1952. Such assignment precludes further reserve participation for the purpose of earning promotion or retirement points. Air Force Reserve Officers will not be eligible for transfer from the Inactive Air Reserve until one year after their assignment to that category. Airmen of the Air Force Reserve are not required to earn a specified number of points for retention of their assignment in the Volunteer Air Reserve.
