Dr. Benjamin Schuss Attended Convention Dr. Benjamin Schuss of Speedway City attended the 55th annual convention of the Indiana Optometric Association in Indianapolis, closing Tuesday. . P r o m i nent speakers included Dr. James F. Wahl of Anna, 111., first vice president of the American Optometric Association. He stressed vision care for the young child as a preventive of eyesight difficulties in adulthood. “Parents, teachers and vision specialists must work together,” Dr. Wahl said, “That ancient phrase, 20/20 vision, is out of date. It refers to the Shellen chart which was invented in 1863 and* has not been improved since. Good vision at 20 feet is still a necessity, particularly for the driver on today’s roads, but that is only part of the story. “If a child is to maintain his standing in school and equip himself for a happy, useful existence, he must have clear and comfortable vision at the reading distance —l3 to 16 inches. The poor achiever in school becomes the problem child.” Mrs. Dorothy Brinkley, R.N., medical director of Motorola, Inc., Chicago, said that a program of vision testing and care in industry benefits production, reduces absenteeism and turnover, contributes to health and safety of employees and promotes good will.
