St. Christopher’s Catholic Church 5335 West 16th Street Rev. L. A. Lindemann .Pastor Sunday Masses: 6:00 o’clock High Masses this week were as follows ... at 6 o’clock on Thursday morning for Mary Aim Bische requested by the family, and at 6 o’clock on Friday for Catherine requested by fee family. • , Friday of this week is First Friday . . . offering our Holy Communions to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Saturday of this week is First Saturday . . . offering our Holy Communions to our Holy Mother at Fatima, petitioning her to pray for peace. This is the beginning of another year, and many resolutions. Let us all be resolved that we will all try our very best to “make” the First Fridays and First Saturdays during 1952. Everybody seemed to have a mighty good time at the New Year’s Eve dance. C.Y.O. meeting Monday night, J-muary 7th. Altar Society meeting and installation of new officers Wednesday night, January 9th. Sunday is the Feast of the Ephiphany . . . the coming of the three Wise Men . . . Little Christmas. On next Sunday at the 8:30 o’clock the members of the Altar Society will receive Holy Communion. By members is meant every woman who is member of St. Christopher, whether she is active or not. Let us all pray for our sick. Doris Atkinson is home from the hospital again. Mr. Herring is not so good again. Mary Rosner Porker is in the hospital. There is a little two year old Duffy child in Clermont, we believe, whom we didn’t know, who needs our prayers. And Mrs. Moran should be remembered. Rosalie Bifano is home, and hopes to be up some this week. And for any one else who is sick of whom we don’t know. During these days among other things we hear of the all feared, dreaded disease, cancer. We donate our money for research, which is good, but we wonder if the little known Saint is prayed to often enough. God who created the world, and fashioned the wondrous intricacies of the human body, fs master of His own creation. He can and does suspend the laws of nature for those . . . who have faith in his goodness. Prayer moves mountains ... it also cures impossible diseases. Certain Saints, because of events of their lives seem to specialize in interceding for definite types of people. We all know that St. Joseph is patron of a happy death . . . our own St. Christopher, guardian of travel . . . and by Papal decree ... St. Peregrine is patron of America’s most deadly disease cancer. Once solemnly declared Universal Patron of Spain . . . most popular saint in the city of Vienna . . . invoked and well known In Austria, Hungary, Bavaria, «md Italy is the universal patron of cancer and running sores ... St. Peregrine of the Servite Order. A little statute of the Saint, pamphlets and medals can be obtained by writing to Novena Notes, 3121 West Jackson Boulevard, Chicago 12,. Illinois. „ We all too well know that many of our non-Catholic friends do not understand our praying to the Saints for favors and requests, instead of directly to God. We wonder how many of us have always gone directly to our fathers for things which we wanted very much . . . how many of us haven’t asked our mothers, or someone whom we thought might influence our fathers, first. At the beginning of 1952, let us stop and say . . . “Conduct me, O Lord, in Thy way, and I will walk in Thy Truth” —Psalms 85:11. Nora Bray
