SCHOOL NEWS (Continued form Pagw 1) pate in the Student Legislature sponsored by Purdue. Students attending are: James Hill, James Breen, Jane Beaman, Roberta Rat. liff, John Dryer, Chris Stephens, Kathryn Brockman, Sharon Brady, and Mary Lou DeLong. Mr. Dalton Wicker, high school music instructor, is attending meetings of the Indiana School Music Association Clinic at Terre Haute State Teachers College. Mr. Wicker is vice-president of the organization. The American Junior Red Cross has attained 100% enrollment in the grade school again this year. Each child has a pin to show his participation and each room has an enrollment blank with each child’s name on it. Any extra money collected is being used to buy items for boxes to go to foreign countries. These are expected to be completed within the next few days.
The past week was the final week of the second six weeks* grading period. Report cards will be issued next Thursday. Intramural basketball results to date in the Junior High League are as follows. The teams are designated by the name of the captain. November 20: Phillips 45, Harris 7; Racer 31, Bledsoe 16. November 27: Phillips 35, Bledsoe 15; Harris 17, Racer 15. High School League: November 21: Vogel 64, McDaniels 30; Bledsoe 46, Thorne 16. The Speedway Varsity basketball team won two Mid-State Conference games during the past week defeating Brownsburg 39-32 and Plainfield 35-34. The second team lost to Brownsburg 46-32 but won from a score of 56-14.
Sparkplugs Subdue Bulldog* The Speedway Sparkplugs downed Brownsburg Wednesday, November 22. The Speedway Sparkplugs started fast and kept right on rolling to pile up a 20 to 11 lead at halftime. In the third quarter with the sharpshooting of Dave Wilson and Harold Kuykendall, Speedway widened their margin; score now 31 to 20. But in the fourth quarter, with Patterson leading their attack, the Bulldogs began to threaten the Sparkplugs as they pulled to within 6 points of them. Speedway, however, again caught fire and the game ended Speedway 39, Brownsburg 32. Speedway Squeak* Out Victory Over Plainfield With the Sparkplugs and the Quakers both getting off to a slow start, the Sparkplugs led at the end of the stanza 7 to 3. Things speeded up a little in the second quarter however, but the Sparkplugs still held a 5 point margin at halftime 17 to 12. In the third quarter the Sparkplugs began “hitting” on an cylinders as they piled up a 14 point lead and led at the end of the stanza 33 to 19. The Quakers came roaring back in the fourth quarter with 15 points to the Sparkplugs 2 and just 2 points shy of victory. Myers, Plainfield center, took scoring honors with 11 points. Final score: Speedway 35, Plain* field 34.
