Miss Jessie M. Trout is vicepresident of The United Christian Missionary Society, International board of Christian missions and education for Disciples of Christ She is also executive secretary of missionary organizations. In this capacity she is. responsible for the leadership of 4,100 organizations in local churches, with a total membership of approximately 175,000, in the United States and Canada. Miss Trout, born and educated in Canada, was a missionary to Japan from 1921 to 1940. Her first assignment on the mission field, after language study, was at Akita in the northern part of the main island. Her work was with women and children, especially with girls* clubs. In 1931 she joined the staff of Margaret K. Long Girls’ School in Tokyo where she had classes in English and helped in their Sunday school and with the school Y.W.CA. In 1935 Miss Trout was loaned by the United Society to the work of Dr. Tpyohiko Kagawa. She served as English secretary and hostess in Fellowship House near the Kagawa home, and worked in the church and settlement house. She also did translations of Dr. Kagawa’s articles, poems and books, including Brotherhood Economics and Behold the Man.
In addition, she taught some classes in the Margaret K. Long School Because she was unable to return to Japan in 1941, after a furlough, she took special assignments in the Emergency Million Movement of Disciples of Christ, in Japanese relocations camps, and in the work of relocating Japanese Americans, until 1944 when she became World Call secretary. In 1946 she was called to the department of missionary organizations as executive secretary where she has led the women of the churches in a remarkable way. In 1947 at the request of the British women, she spent six weeks with the churches in Great Britain helping with their organizational plans. Miss Trout is on the Board of the UniteA Council of Church Women and represents Disciple women in many interdenominational meetings.

Allison Plans New Office Building Urgently needed production space and a more modem efficient office will result from Allison plans to erect a new office building in front of Plant 3 on West 10th Street. With the new building, offices, which since World War II have been located in areas originally planned for factory space, will be returned to production to take care of increasing schedules in tank transmissions, locomotive parts and bearings. Approximately 70,000 square feet of plant space will be gained in this way. At the same time, Allison will have, through a combination of the new and present office building, a better planned and more efficient office area. The number of office people employed by Allison has grown considerably in the past few months and more will be required as Allison participation advances in the U. S. preparedness program. Provision is being made in the new building for air conditioning and other modem conveniences conducive to efficient work. It also will have a new cafeteria as the present office cafeteria will become part of the plant area. Completion of the building will require about ten months and construction will begin as soon as

detailed planning is completed. While the building is underway, a temporary front office entrance will be set up and other arrangements made so that the construction work will not interfere with present operations. Additional parking areas will be made available because the new building will extend approximately 400 feet along West 10th Street from a point just east of the present lobby entrance west to the entrance adjacent to the office cafeteria. The 70,000 square feet of floor space to be added to the productive area represents the second major expansion in Allison factory space since the U.S. began the rebuilding of its armed forces.
