The Sparkplugs, under new head coach Lyle Neat, found the basket early in the first quarter and after three successive field goals by Rumple, DeMoss and Kuykendall, managed to increase the lead to 20 to 13 at halftime. In the second half, however, Franklin came back to take the lead at the three-quarter mark, 29 to 27. In the fourth quarter with about two minutes remaining, two Sparkplug regulars, Wingert and Kuykendall, fouled out, while Franklin managed to widen its lead by two more points and win 43 to 39.
