17. The first home game will be November 22 the evening before Thanksgiving. Reserved season basketball tickets will be on sale Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings, November 13, 14, and 15. Details of the sale will be announced in next week’s Speedway Flyer. Members of all three fourth grades enjoyed a science trip to Mrs. Staley’s flower garden. This was a part of the unit on seed dispersal. United Nations Day was observed in the elementary schools with appropriate programs and displays. The fifth grade had an excellent exhibit in the display case with flags from the United Nations and dolls from several countries. SPARKPLUGS GIVE HORNETS A SHOOCK by Jim DaMoss Ist Quarter On the first series of downs Speedway was forced to punt from their own end zone. Kirk was trapped and forced out by Hornet tackle, Harold Lambert, for a safety and Beech Grove had 2 points in the first 2 minutes of the game. On the next kickoff Beech Grove drove to the Speedway 25 yard line. From there half-back Curey, Hornet speedster, raced the necessary 25 yards for the score. Lambert then split the uprights with his place-kick for the extra point 2nd Quarter To start the 2nd quarter, after the Hornets had again driven to the Sparkplugs 19 yard line, Curey this time took a pitch-out and raced to the Speedway end zone tor the score. Halftime Score Speedway 7 Beech Grove 15 3rd Quarter The Sparkplugs came back in the 3rd quarter, however, with fullback Kuykendall leading the parade. First Kirk took a hand-off and drove six yards for a score. Then he power-dived the Hornet line for the necessary 2 yards for the conversion. Then with Kirk carrying about every other time he climaxed Speedway’s second successive drive since the beginning of the second half with a four yard plunge through center. 4th Quarter Kirk was still driving as he drove over from the 2 yard line to score his third T.D. at the'beginning of the 4th quarter. But the “Plugs” still were firing with Kirk, Endres, and Vance carrying, Speedway drove to the Hornet 10 yard line. From there Endres out distanced his defenders to the end zone for the score. The thrills weren't over yet however. With Speedway kicking off Curey took the ball on his

Theatre Guild Opens Season On Saturday and Sunday, October 28 and 29 at 8:30 p.m., the Catholic Theatres Guild will open its 1950-51 season with its production of, “Ladies In Retirement,” at Cathedral High School Auditorium.

The play is directed by John J. Vanßenten and the cast includes Elizabeth Glaze, Margaret Mellen, Janet Myers, Ruth O’Mahoney, Laura Jean Ray, Mrs. Marjorie Johnson and Tommy Wadeltoq. This is the second season for the Guild and five productions will be presented during the year. Last year, “Ah Wilderness” by Eugene O’Neil, and “Our Town,” by Thornton Wilder were produced. Productions of the same calibre will be chosen again this year. Season tickets will be available up to the October 28-29 production.
