by Dee Covell Friday the thirteenth arrived a week early for Speedway’s undefeated Sparkplugs as they dropped their first game of the season to the Ben Davis Giants last Friday. Wilson caught Ben Davis’ opening kick-off to begin the fortyeight minute tussle which was a main factor in determining the County Championship. Smith and Endres led the Sparkplugs to the 10 yard line from which Kuykendall ran for our first and only TD of the game. A pass from quarterback Wilson was missed, leaving the score 6-0 at the end of the first quarter. The second 12 minutes showed excellent playing from both the Sparkplugs and the Giants. Despite interceptions, passes, tackles, and runs, the score remained 6-0 at the half. Following an impressive showing of the Ben Davis band the second half began with S.H.S.

kicking and Ritter of Ben Davis receiving. A penalty of 15 yards for unnecessary roughness was to the advantage of the Giants. However, Speedway recovered the ball and it was carried for a clean 20 yard run by Pohlar. After 3 minutes and 34 seconds of play the Giants took a turn to show their ability with Marksberry taking the pigskin over the Ben Davis line to change the score to a 6 all

tie. The extra point, tried by a' pass, was unsuccessful. So remained the score until well into the final twelve minutes when Giant Marksberry again ran for a TD and again the Sparkies were able to hold back the extra point. With 1 minute 32 seconds left in the game, Ben Davis scored again, this time adding a conversion,! making the final score 19-6 in favor of the Ben Davis Giants.
