SCHOOL NEWS (Continued from page 1) is stationed there. In the fall she will begin her year of teaching the' children of Americans stationed in Germany. The School Board has given Mrs. Wagle a year’s leave of absence. She will return to teaching duties in Speedway in 1951. Pupils from the Elementary Science classes of the fourth, fifth, and sixth grades displayed birdhouses in the Visual Education room this week. These will all be entered in the annual 'birdhouse contest. The First Grade in Room F gave an original “Spring” play for the Kindergarten last Wednesday afternoon. The first graders divided into' groups and decided what they would do, say, and sing. In art class they made flowers, trees, fish, kites, logs, and Easter eggs. In their language class they made and illustrated large reading charts. The Senior Dance is scheduled for tonight in the high school gym.

In a meeting of the Indiana School Librarians’ Association at Muncie last week, Miss Thelma Stout was elected to the presidency of the organization for the coming year. Mrs. Helen Kelley and Mrs. Dorothy Marvel substituted for teachers who were absent the past week. As a result of a request from the Audio-Visual Department of Indiana University several pictures were taken Tuesday of various phases of the audio-visual program in Speedway schools. The pictures are to be used by the university in making 2x2 slides which are to be shown to school board members in a series of district meetings over the state, the purpose being to give school boards an idea of the value of these aids. It is quite a compliment to Speedway school to be singled out by the university as a school having an effective and well-organized program. Miss LaVeme Ridlen is chairman of the Audio-Visual Committee of Speedway schools.
