St Christopher’s Catholic Church Rev. L. A. Lindemann t -Pastor Sunday Masses: 6:00 o’clock Weekday Masses. -6:30 o’clock The members of the Altar Society will receive Holy Communion in a body at the 8:30 o’clock Mass Sunday morning. The ladies are asked to meet downstairs, as they will march up and be seated in a body. Each and every lady who is h member of St. Christopher is invited to receive Holy Communion, because as has been said before, Father Lindemann considers every lady a member of the Altar Society whether she is active or not. There will be ladies at the rear and front doors of the church after all the Masses Sunday morning to accept offerings for the flowers for Holy Thursday and for Easter Sunday. It always makes one feel good inside to know that he or she has had a part in placing flowers on the altor on Holy Thursday or on Easter Sunday—but we all can’t buy a bouquet alone. Therefore, most of us welcome this opportunity to give. Sunday is Palm Sunday. Palms will be blessed before the 10 o’clock Mass. Any who are not at this Mass to receive their palm will find palms on a table in the school hall later. The gospel read on Palm Sunday is according to St. Matthew, chapters 26 and 27. The passion and death of Jesus. Members of the Holy Name Society will act as leaders for the all-night vigil on Holy Thursday from 9 P.M. Thursday evening until 6 P.M. Friday morning. On the bulletin board in the school hall can be found the schedule and the men are asked to indicate thereon the hour which they will attend. Every member of St. Christopher who possibly can should help the men keep this vigil, but those who can’t then should spend one hour at other times before the Blessed Sacrament on Holy Thursday. The Blessed Sacranjgnt will be exposed after the Mass on Thursday morning until the Mass on Good Friday morning. Everyone should receive Holy Communion on Holy Thursday. Confessions will be heard on Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday evening. A beautiful custom which is practiced by many is to visit as many different churches on Holy Thursday as can be visited, and on foot. If it is impossible to go to different churches, then many visits should be made to St. Christopher. Evening services next week will be on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings. All fasting ends at noon on Holy Saturday, April 8. Wednesday of next week is not a day of abstinence. Holy Saturday is a day of abstinence until noon. When this column goes to press, Frank Joyce is still critically ill in the Veterans Hospital. Your prayers are asked for his recovery. On April 1, Saturday, as many of the men who can are asked to come down to the school and clean out the social room which is to be their room. They are asked to bring along a, 9/16" open end wrench and a screwdriver to assemble desks. Mr. Martich, president of the Holy Name Society, says that the men are looking forward to having a lot of good entertainment in this room in the years ahead and plans call for the room being open at least one night a week. There was a very good attendance at the Shore Dinner last Friday night. Mrs. Rose Aust and Mrs. Catherine Burton, chairmen, wish to thank the members of their committee, other ladies who helped, the men who helped, the children who helped, and everybody who came down and ate with them. It takes many to make a successful dinner. The Holy Name Society had on display Sunday morning a genuine Royal Koh-I-Nor mink neck-piece—five skins—summer fur —which they are going to give some lucky person early in May. This beautiful neckfur was donated to the society by Mr. Charles Anger. How can you be the lucky person? Well, soon some member of the society will be tellin’ you how you can try. Michael Bifano, Catholic press and literature chairman, is in charge of the “Rosaries for Russia” crusade which activity is being begun by the Holy Name Society. Announcement was made at the Masses Sunday. Further details of this Novena of prayer by all Catholics for'the conversion of Russia will be made later. It is felt that if Russia is at peace, then the world will be at peace. An announcement was also made Sunday that the Holy Name Society is now working with the Sisters on setting up a library for the schol children in the room which was intended a library for the school children in the room which was intended adults. Everyone was asked to look around and if they had any children’s books which were, gathering dust to collect them together. Also, if anyone wished to be a part of this library and no books to give, that they should contact Sister Margaret Clare and she would help them. Pray daily the Holy Rosary for peace in the world. Remember the First Saturdays by receiving Holy Communion and hearing Mass if possible—Saturday, April 1 is First Saturday. . . all things are possible with God.”—St. Mark 10:27. Nora Bray.

School News At the spring meeting of the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools held March 20-24, in Chicago, Speedway High School was given unqualified admission to this accrediting organization. 170 of the 760 high schools in Indiana have achieved membership in the N.C.A.C.S.S. Of this 170 only about one half were given membership without meeting certain conditions. As stated above Speedway was one of the group admitted without reservations. This is an outstanding achievement for our high school and is the result! of the desire of Speedway citizens to provide the best possible education for their children. Membership in the N.C.A.C.S.S. is on an annual basis and if a school does not maintain high standards and continue to improve it can be dropped from membership. Membership assures the citizens of a community that their school must continue to provide a good education for their boys and girls.
