BOWLINQ Christmas and New gear’s hits the calendar it not only means Santa Claus and resolutions are in order, but indicates that the winter bowling leagues have approached the half--way mark in their schedules. Some of the bowlers are very happy about the averages they have been turning in, while others are quite displeased with the results they have been experiencing. The so-called lucky keglers are only too anxious to tell their friends how they “do it” and feel well qualified to give advice. Those suffering from “ten-pin-itus” and poor showings are in the market to try any innovation which they riMieve will benefit their game and place them in a higher average gracket. It is a well known fact that there are people in the bowling |k|isiness who are well qualified and willing, free of charge, to analyse your bowling, give practical suggestions, and, undoubtly, correct most of the faults from which you are suffering. Many of the alley managers and assistants are good, if not expert, bowlers, and have made it a habit to help the people patronizing their establishments. All one has to do is to take advantage of this privilege. It certainly seems reasonable to believe that by going directly to an alley, permitting a capable person to observe your form, advise you on the defects, help you to make the necessary changes, and patiently work with you in order to perfect your game, an improvement is inevitable. Try this suggestion and you’ll thank me for the “tip” at a future date. HARDWOOD FROLICS

In the opener Tech had quite a tussle with the boys from the far north side before convincing them to the tune of 46-41. With all of the Howe Hornets getting into the lineup, they romped to an easy conquest of the Continentals of Washington 47-30, in the second act of the matinee program. In the evening engagement, Tech once again proved they are immune to the sting of the Hornets. They won 44-38. What has happened to the Brazil Tigers? A few years back, this reporter had quite a debate concerning the merits of several teams, who at the time had the ability and material to come through in the big event. After discussing, both pro and con, we agreed on one team to be the big wind in 1950. That team was Brazil In fact we made the prediction that Brazil would win the title. At the present time Brazil *As a won and lost record of 1-4. The boys from Decatur Central put one more nick in the Hatchets from Washington, last Saturday The surprise team of the south is Mitchell. They are fortified with height and speed. Ask any Madison fan. They hold the only victory over the Cuba 40-31. It won’t be long now. The time is drawing near for this reporter to go out on a limb and try to “Name the Winner” of the spring ctoerir. On Sunday, January Ist, 1950, this reporter will name that team, and the name will appear in the first edition of the New Year, Jan. 6th. IN MEMORIAM Pleasant Run grieves the passing of one of it’s most notable members, who departed this life last week. Earl “Holly” Hollingsworth was one of the finest men •ißever trod the hills and fairways of the east side links. For the past several years, Holly and his bosom friend Ed Werner could be seen “Chipping Shots” back and forth on what they termed “Their private pasture.” One time Holly said that they had a twenty-five year lease on that area (between the ninth and tenth fairways) and it had another ten years to run. Holly was the perfect example of sportsmanship both on and off the links. He was Weed and respected by everyone • vAerever he traveled. May his soul and the souls departed rest The reason so many fool laws Mpt through legislatures is that it takes less brainwork to pass a tow than it does to figure out all its evil consequences. GREENWOOD BECOMES No. 6 The Speedway Sparkplugs won their sixth game in seven starts Saturday night against Greenwood with a score of 44 to 34. Greenwood led at the half 24 to 19. Then in the second half the Plugs caught fire with Ray Stewart leading the attack with a total of 19 points. Bob Thompson flipped in 16 points for the losers. SUPPORT TIDE OF TOYS
