Something new has been added to this season's college football scouting. To the already highly developed telephone and movie techniques, Bob Hall, veteran Yale scout, has added Dictaphone’s new portable electronic dictating machine, the Time-Master. “Football scouting is an exacting job,” explains Hall, a former Eli quarterback. “A scout can t afford to miss one play on the field for that missed play may be the one that will beat your team the next week. But scouts do miss an occasional play while making notes of a recently completed formation. “In addition, many scouts find it necessary to spend Saturday night and most of Sunday turning their many notes into a formal written report. “By using this portable dictating machine I can watch every move on the field. I have practically no writing to do. And when the game is over my job is done because I merely slip the plastic Memobelt containing my observations into an envelope for immediate mailing. “The coach can either hear my report replayed directly from the

Persuading the children to eat their daily quota of vegetables is sometimes rather difficult unless you camouflage them with a dish like Spicy Vegetable Casserole. Arrange 1% cups canned green beans, cut in half, and 1 pkg. frozen asparagus (or 2 cups canned) in greased casserole dish. In a sauce* pan melt 2 tbsps..fat. Add 2 tbsps. flour. stir in 2 cups milk and 2 bouillon cubes. Cook until sauce thickens, then add % top. salt, % ton. celery seed, 2 tbsps. prepared mustard. Pour sauce over vegetables, cover and bake in moderate gas oven (350°F.) for 25 mins. Garnish with 2 hard cooked eggs, finely chopped. Serves 4. • * • For every hour needed to dry a blanket on an outdoor line in aver* age weather, it takes only 3 to 4 minutes in an automatic gas dryer. Time saved: at least three hoars. • • • Equal parts of potato chips and corn flakes make a good topping for casserole dishes and a delicious coating for croquettes. * .* * The average homemaker washes six tons of dishes a year—a tremendous chore unless you have plenty of hot water. The thermostat of an automatic gas water heater is usually set at 140‘F. Around 120‘F. is the hottest the hands can stand. For dishwashing, mix in a little cold -water unless you want to reset the thermostat each time. • • * Rest your stirring spoon on absorbent paper towel oa the work surface of your gas range Saves cleaning up food stains. YALE football scout Bob Hall is show* (at top) usin« Dicta;>booe portable electronic dictating machine. Coach Hetman Hickman (right) and Ted Blair, of the EU football committee, are listening to a ptar back of Hall's observations. Memobelt or he can have it transcribed by a secretary. This means a coach can have important scouting details hours earlier than by the ordinary report method. For example, I could scout a Yale opponent in the Far West on a Saturday afternoon and Coach Herman Hickman would have my observations the first thing Sunday morning. This new method not only is a great convenience but it is a real timesaver.”

To keep Christmas mail on schedule, the Postmaster asks that you—1. Stop at the post office next week to purchase the extra stamps you’re going to need. When buying stamps for Christmas cards, bear in mind the desirability of sending the cards as first class mail; also the fact that the rate for unsealed cards has been increased from IVic to 2c each. Greeting cards measuring less than 3 inches in width and also less than 4 inches in length are subject to a minimum charge of 3c each. For example a greeting card measuring 2% inches by 3% inches must have 3c postage affixed. 2. Check and revise your Christmas card list this week-end. Purchase Christmas cards early and address and stamp them at once. Then stack them in a cdh-
venient place for mailing at the proper time. 3. Lay in -adequate supplies of heavy cardboard, sturdy outer paper, strong cord, and printed Fourth Class labels for wrapping parcel post Packages are limited to 70 pounds in weight, and must not measure more than 100 inches in length and girth combined. Repeat the address inside the outer wrappings, in case they are damaged in transit. If you worry about the recipient peeking, the Postmaster advises
