Hints OnHeatth The word “therapy” means treatment Doctors classify treatment of disease as medical, surgical, mental and physical. Physical treatment involves use of materials and forces existing in nature, such as water, air, light heat cold and electricity. The use of heat in treatment of disease is probably as Old as man himself. People bathed in the rays of the sun long before the time of written history. In ancient Greece and Rome sun rooms were built on roofs of private dwellings, so people could expose themselves to direct rays of the sun. Massage or manipulation of bones muscles and other tissues of the body is much used in physical therapy. We recognize today a special branch of medicine known as physical medicine. Specialists who administer such treatment are known as physical therapists. There are also technical assistants who aid in carrying out the procedures. Physical methods are especially adopted to the treatment of paralysis assqpiated with various diseases, particularly infantile paralysis, spastic paralysis and paralysis following hemorr-

CURRENT NEWS reports suggest that the British are still having a tough time, though things seem a little better with them lately. Actually, it ia high time for signs of recovery. How much better off England would be right now—how much sooner she would have come out of the kinks if she had kept safe her traditional freedoms that no one knows. But if the English mind and spirit come out of these dangerous experiences unscathed, it will surely be a miracle. (There are those who will give more credit for improvements to the Marshall Plan and to the generosity of the American taxpayer than they will to Britain’s labor government.) The sad thing about it is that the Englishman is still the worse off, having given up much of his heritage of freedom and liberty, i Mess of /THE’SWAP’Tm Pottage "£• netted a poor mess of ** pottage indeed. England’s experience is the lesson of the century for America. There was the dentist, for example, who took his own life because he found it impossible to operate his office as the government ordered. His suicide note cited too many forms to be filled out for the government and declared he could not do his work and the red tapr too. What about small business? Take filling stations (petrol there). From a London newspaper: “After two years of deliberations. a committee of 13 men has reported to the government on the technical considerations* which should govern the number, capacity, and distribu-

tom of petrol stations.** Imagine! That ia the result, when people hand over their individual initiative to government. Liberty J UNDER THE HEADin Flight! ING “First Warm the .-r < Teapot,** an item in a British newspaper advises that the food ministry is sending out an export who will visit restaurants in Tottenham and educate the restaurant staffs on the subject of how to make tea? As if by mw, the English people have not leaned to make tea. <j Some of these seem a bit ridieuloua. They are. Like the report of demands for “free" wigs having risen under socialised medicine to more than 200 a week—at a cost of more than 34,000.000 yearly. It is' reported also that “Application Order No. 2” will entitle hairless men and women to toe nationalised wig cleaning and dressing service, once every two months. From cradle to grave. In Froxfield, England, K. J. Kitford was building a house. He wanted a round hall window in his new home. But the “area planning committee” said no; the window must be rectangular. “A round window would be out of place in a rural area.” toe panei declared. Commented Kilford: “There is no individual liberty today.” That happened in England. The whole British story of snarling bureaucracy may remind readers of wartime experiences in America. It indicates, too, that government control clashes with individual freedom. Shafi we in America be able to keep our. freedom?
