MOST OF THIJ tyrannies of the world began first as acts of kindness and benevolence. It is interesting that self-styled “liberals" of this modern age propose to take us into bondage again, by first offering the people security of one kind or another. That’s the gimmick by which the bureaucrats propose to perform colossal feats of magic—and get elected (and appointed) again and again. These “securocrats” are ready to trade anybody al) the security he’ll want, in exchange for his freedom. An example is the latest scheme for socialized medicine being proposed in Congress, under the false name of “compulsory national health insurance.” We have been told for years that the nation’s health is in an awful shape, that the American people are a bunch of weaklings. No Need MOST OF this To Pamper ballyhoo has come from the federal agency that wants to supervise and direct the medical care of every person in the nation. This is the Federal Security Agency, the same bureau that once spread the untruth that half the nation’s young men were unfit to bear arms in the recent war. Actually, only about 6 per cent of all men examined for the draft were rejected for health defects that could have been remedied. Our nation is the healthiest nation on earth. It is far and away ahead of any country that has ever tried socialized medicine. There are communities that could use more doctors, to be sure. More hospitals are needed. But the

YMCA. Water Safety Rules NEVER SWIM ALONE Never go swimming alone, especially in strange, unguarded waters where unknown depths and underwater objects may endanger your life. Companionship, while swimming, is life insurance. Always have someone with you as a precaution if trouble strikes.

Practically all the disagreeable domestic tasks can now be performed by electricity, except changing the baby and firing the cook.

FSA contention that half the population cannot afford medical care is pure bosh. Who Pays IT IS SAID that For It? ' right now at least 50 million persons are insured against hospitalizations and accidents. This means that more than one-third of our people have voluntarily provided themselves with medical care plans, without benefit of bureaucracy. It is a major tragedy of this century that so many people have been taught to believe that they can get something for nothing! Where will the money for all thi ; “security” come Dorn? You an I I, if we’re such boneheads, will pay the costs! < 4 It is estimated that you would be asked to chip in to the extent of $192 in taxes for national health insurance. A payroll tax on workers and employers would have to bring $4 billion in to Washington a year —at first. Later, the overall cost of “security” is estimated to run about sl2 billion yearly—only six years from now. By 1990 payroll taxes would run about 18 per cent! That is only the beginning. Some wise economists estimate the eventual cost at 25 per cent of the national payroll! The bill will make necessary in the future very heavy charges against the general revenues of the Treasury. Vast sums of money will be taken from you and you. to support the league of officeholders that a compulsory health insurance plan will require. As for me, I don’t want my medicine from* the 4 bottle marked “political.”

Sommer Tragedy May Be Averted By These Rules Reckless use of “out-of-bounds” areas as bathing sites, holiday carelessness by parents and children at the waterside, youthful exhibitionism in and around deep water, and failure of poor swimmers to recognize their own limitations, win be among the major factors contributing to drownings here this summer. This is the opinion voiced by George Madera, aquatic expert of the YJI.CA, as he listed ten basic rules for water safety at the beaches, lakes and ponds in and near this city.

Remember The—1. If you cannot swim, stay out of easily capsized canoes or small boats. 2. Obey warning signs. They always mean danger—especially to non-swimmers. 3. Never go swimming alone, even if a strong swimmer. Always have a companion with you in case trouble strikes. 4. Never go swimming at unguarded spots, including docks, piers and unfamiliar ponds, lakes and streams. Swim only where there are life guards. 5. Don’t be a show off. 6. Don’t attempt a rescue if you are not a strong swimmer. Toss buoyant articles, inflated tubes,

Never dive into strange waters, where sharp rocks and other deep traps may be hidden. 9. Always race toward shore, not away from it.
