G. Louis Trosky was the recipient of an award presented by the Indiana Industrial Education Association at a meeting of the organization last Friday at Turkey Run State Park. Mr. Trosky was one of the two-teachers receiving this certificate of merit which was given in recognition of achievements in the field of Industrial Arts. Dale Weller, government and history teacher, attended the regional meeting of the Indiana Junior Historical Society at Monticello, Ind., Saturday, April 30. In the reorganization of the group for next year, Ray Stewart, Speedway High School junior, was elected to the executive committee. He is one of the eleven high school students who will represent northern Indiana.
The Mid-State Conference Track Meet was scheduled to be held at Washington High School Thursday, May 5. The Speedway High School squad was one of the seven* participating schools. Lawrence Central has won this meet every year except one when' Danville was victorious. R. G. Foland, business education teacher, and Mrs. Lawrence Thompson accompanied several Speedway High School students to Muncie last Friday to attend the third annual state meeting of the Indiana chapters of Future Business Leaders of America. After a luncheon in the Frank Elliott Ball Memorial Hall the Future Business Leaders were divided into groups and conducted on a tour about the beautiful campus of Ball State Teachers College. Next Tuesday, May 10, the National School Studio will have photographers at our school to take inidividual pictures of all students in grades one through grades 11. Individual pictures will be used to improve the value of the individual records about students. At the same time it adds a new service to school patrons, as the same pictures will be available for purchase. Patrons should feel free to take advantage of or to disregard this new service.
