WARRIORS AVENGE COUNTY DEFEAT • The Spark Plugs, recently crowned county champs, suffered their worst defeat of the season last Friday night at the hands of the Warren Central Warriors. The Warriors gained sweet revenge for the 2-point loss in the county tourney by rapping the Plugs 49 to 38. Jack Vaughn gave Speedway a 2-0 lead early in the game with a two-handed long. George Ostheimer of the Warriors duplicated Vaughn’s shot to tie the game. With a balanced offense working smoothly, Plugs drove a 13-10 first quarter lead. Ed Wieland and Alan Miedema led the Warriors to a 27 to 21 lead at halftime. Speedway continued to hang on dhring the third quarter being behind 36-29 at the start of the last quarter. The Warren fast break coupled with Bill Deer’s height proved the Plugs’ undoing as the hosts stretched their lead to 15 points late in the fourth quarter. Two quick baskets by Jack Vaughn and Konny King was to no avail as the score ended 49-38. Miedema and Deer were high scorers for the victors as they hit for 14 and 13 points respectively. Vaughn contributed 14 points to a losing cause as he led the Plugs in scoring honors. The Speedway Seconds continued to win as *they defeated the Warren second team, 24-28. Speedway entertains the scrappy Pike Red Devils tonight. Saturday the Spark Plug tackle the Continentals at the Washington gym. RESERVE FEBRUARY 16TH P.TJL Box Social and Square Dance!
