St. Christopher’s Catholic Church Rev. L. A. Lindemann Pastor Sunday Masses: 6:00 o’clock Weekday Masses. 7:00 o’clock Wednesday of this week was Candlemas pay, and the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mother. On this day candles which are to be used in the church throughout the year and the home are blessed. Some of the candles blessed for the home are placed in boxes, and the boxes set on the Altar rai, so that anyone wishing them may take a couple or more home and make an offering for same. It is also customary to ma e an offering at the same time to help pay for the candles used in the Church throughout the year. If you Mill have candles obtained in previous years, burn them in time of storm, distress, sorrow, thanksgiving fir happiness; new, fresh candles should be procured on each Candlemas Day to have in the home in case of sickness. On Thursday, the feast day of St. Blaze, BM, throats were blessed. They were blessed after the six o’clock Mass in t e morning, after school, and again in the evening. The Mass on Friday—FlßST FRIDAY—was at 6 o’clock. It was a High Mass—offered for the Cullen and McCoy families by Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Cullen. The young ladies who so graciously helped in the serving of the Chili Supper last month at St. Christopher were Mary Joan Cohen, Elizabeth Ann Meyer, Shirley Long,' Dolores Medenwald, Catherine Grande, Carol Rosner and Ruth Rosner. The Committee again thanks them. Mrs. Clara Grande Aulbach is at St. Vincent’s Hospital. She was operated on last Friday, and from the reports which we were able to get on Wednesday, she fine. Keep it up, Glara. Our well-wishings are with you. Her room number ;is 131. The Trustees held a business meeting last Sunday evening in the Rectory. The date of the Annual LAWN FESTIVAL has been set. So that everybody can make their plans accordingly, we are giving it out . . . AUGUST 4th, sth and 6th.. The same six men, Messrs Leonard Endres, Carl Otto, George Grannan, Bob Keating, William Hendricks and Herman Greenwood, will serve next year, and there will be three rfew members asked to serve as Trustees; so that instead of six trustees, as in the past, from 1949 on there will be nine trustees serving St. Christopher. The annual Trustees’ dinner will be on Sunday evening, February 20th, at six o’clock. The names of the new members will be announced then. On Sunday, volunteers were asked for two projects. Three men are needed to volunteer to promote the Te Deum. This is a men’s affair—they meet every Thursday evening—for dinner—at the K.C. Dining Room. They pay eighteen dollare a' year, which entitles them to twelve dinners and a ticket to the Te Deum lectures which are held at Murat Theatre. . . . This year there are six lectures, we believe. Of course, tickets for these lectures are sold to anyone else who might wish to attend. The lectures are open to the public. Mr. Ben Althoff who served on the Te Deum Committee for St. Christopher last year has offered to serve again, but Father Lindemann would like two more men to volunteer to serve this year. Volunteers to cover St. Christopher Parish for membership in the Propagation of the Faith, once a year were asked. These volunteers may be men or women. Anyone who is interested should see Father Lindemann for the details. No one should be too busy with outside interests to give of their time to God Almighty. The Mass on Saturday morning—FlßST SATURDAY will 'be at six o’clock—a High Mass for John Theiss offered by Mr. anft Mrs. Arnold Theiss. Confessions were heard on Thursday afternoon and evening in preparation for First Friday, and on Friday, and of course will be heard on Saturday as usual. Everyone who possibly can is asked to receive Holy Communion on next Sunday and to join in prayer for God’s protection of Cardinal Mindezenty and the Church in Hungary during their time of trial. Cardinal Mindezenty, as you know, has been arrested and imprisoned by the rulers of Communism. There will be a Holy Hour Sunday at St. Christopher . . . time to be announced Sunday morning. The Merchandise Club is finally getting things shaped around so that; they can get started. Mrs. Helen Morris is Chairman and Mesdames Louise Grothe and Helen Houck are her Co-Chairmen. If anyone has any questions, will they please direct them to these ladies. Mrs. Florence Goldey, Chairman, and Mrs. Ruth Aharen, Co-Chairman, have called another Committee meeting at the home of the Chairman for next Monday night to get things moving for the CARD PARTY to be held at St. Christopher on Sunday, February 27, both in the afternoon and evening. The ladies who will serve on this Committee are Mesdames Mary Sheridan, Dorothy Unnewehr, Delia Collins, Letha Medenwald, Catherine Renard, Dorothy Mann, Rosemary Thompson, Betty Otte, Ann Petraits, Eva Carlsen, Sadie Mann, Delia Rosner, Mary Lee Sansome, Mary Maled, Helen Leak, Mildred Keller, Yvonne Smith, Louise Grothe, Marie Stieglitz, Bess Bruce and Nora Bray. The prizes for these parties are to a variety—hand-made pillow cases, hand-made aprons, and several nice prizes for men only. There will be one lovely door prize for the afternoon party and one for the evening party. Thin will be the last party before Lent, so plan now to attend. The men of the Parish will receive Holy Communion at the 8:30 o’clock Mass Sunday morning. A Father and Son Communion Breakfast is planned for March—more news about this as we go along. “See to it that no one deceives you by philosophy and vain deceit.” . . . Colossians 2:8. ' Nora Bray
