Butler-Cincinnati An improved Butler University football team took to the practice field early this week looking forward to its first Mid-American Conference victory when it meets the Bearcats of the University of Cincinnati in the Butler Bowl Saturday (Oct. 23) at 2 p.m. The offense drive of both teams is tied up in the halfback departments. “Rambling” Roger Stephens, Bearcat halfback, one of the leading groupd gainers irf the nation for the past two seasons, is a real threat. To date the other starting halfbacks have led in rushing averages for their respective teams. Les Eearey, Butler senior, has averaged 5.5 yards in the last two games and has a four game average of 5 yards. The Bearcat rushing leader is halfback James Dougherty who has carried the ball an average <rf 6.5 yards in three games. ahead. In his first three games Francis Moriarty carried the ball 178 yards for a 4.4 average for Butler, while the Bearcat fullback, Don Brill, carried the ball for 130 yards and a 3.5 average. Cincinnati has the edge in, passing in that it has completed 29 passes while Butler has completed 15.
