25 MORE BUSES NOW IN SERVICE Twenty-five more new motor coaches—latest adidtion to the Indianapolis Railways’ fleet—were placed in service this week. Purchased at a cost of $17,000 each, they raise the post-war modernization program to a total of $3,115,000. Acquisition of the new equipment permitted the local transit firm to abandon 25 small, badly worn buses which had struggled through the war and post-war years. The new buses will provide 381 more seats than the number being abandoned. Manufactured by General Motors, the Diesel buses have 45 seats and continue the transit firm’s swing to larger vehicles! They compare favorably with the 44-seat Twin Coaches and the 48-seat Marmon-Herrington trackless trolleys delivered recently. They have permitted a redistribution of buses throughout the system to give improved' service on many of the bus lines. The . Company now has 195 vehicles (145 buses and 50 trackless trolleys) which were purchased during the post-war modernization program.
