Butler Faculty To Hear Arthur H. Comptyn Chancellor Arthur H. Compton of Washington University, St. Louis, Mo., noted atomic physicist and Nobel Prize winner, will be guest speaker Friday, April 30, at 3 p.m. when he addresses members of the Butler University faculty in the Arthur Jordan Memorial halL Completing a tour of seven colleges and universities in Indiana, Dr. Compton will speak Friday morning, April 30, at Wabash College. Other addresses to be included in his tour are Indiana State Teachers College, April 26; Ball ijjjate Teachers College, April 27; Manchester College and the University of Notre Dame, April 28; and Purdue University April 29. Dr. Compton, who has been chancellor of Washington University since 1946, previously was chairman of the department of physics and dean of the physical sciences division at the University of Chicago. During the war he headed the Metallurgical Laboratory at the University of Chicago where much of the work on the atomic bomb was done. He won the Nobel Prize in physics in 1927 for showing that light can be regarded as being made up of rapidly moving particles called photons, and he has also won numerous other international and American honors. In 1946 he was presented the St. Louis Award as the citizen contributing the most to the educational, cultural, and spiritual welfare of the city during the year.
