New Sahara Grotto Monarch Installed JOHN W. SPROULE John W. Sproule was installed Thursday, Jan. 22, as new monarch of Sahara Grotto, amid the traditional pomp and pageantry in his honor. Mr. Sproule was formerly drill master of the Grotto Drum and Bugle Corps, and by his untiring efforts to build it up, gained distinction for the corps. He would make a good diplomat, for he always took the time to tell members of the Drum and Bugle Corps Auxiliary that this distinction was attained through their cooperation in encouraging their husbands to attend practice meetings. Johnny (as most everyone calls him), must have thought Christmas had come again at his in-

i stallatiori. Besides receiving the regular gavel, which is made by hand each year by George Stivers, a member of the Grotto, another gavel was presented by Fred Earhart. This gavel had been made in Oregon from myrtle wood. Mr. Stivers informed Johnny that this wood could only be procured from Oregon or the Holy Land. A very beautiful silver baton was presented to Johnny by Mr. Beanblossom of the Grotto Drum and Bugle Corps on behalf of the members.
Emergency Appeal to Aid in Preventing a Condition of Hardship BY GOVERNOR RALPH GATES There exists in our state a very real shortage of fuel oil for household heating. Many hundreds of our Indiana citizens face extreme discomfort and suffering from cold this winter. . This emergency is so serious and exists over such a widespread area that I feel impelled to ask that every user of fuel oil in any form immediately start on a fuel conservation program in his own home, factory, apartment, farm or business to cut down his fuel oil consumption by at least ten per cent. At the present consumption rate there simply is not enough fuel oil to go around at all times and at all places. Public health and comfort demand that no household in Indiana be permitted to be cold—which means that every fuel oil user will have to share with his neighbors and fellow citizens a part of the oil he would ordinarily useSelfishness and love of personal comfort MUST be forgotten in this critical period. No great sacrifice would be required, and adequate heating for all might be accomplished by cutting down by at least 10% the normal consumption of fuel oil by every heating unit. RALPH F. GATES Governor, State of Indiana.
“Disk Jockeys To Help Fight Polio** The battle or tne disk jockeys will help fight the battle against polio—that’s the theme on the special broadcast being arranged by station WISH for next Friday night, Jan. 30 from 11 to midnight. Bill Faulkner, who spins the plotters on “Hoosier Requestime” every afternoon 3:30-4:55 p. m., will match audiences with Bob Bruner, who handles the records each night from 11 to midnight. The followers of these two disk jockeys are urged to time in this Friday night and vote for their favorite by making a contribution to the “March of Dimes.” All names and contributions will be read over the air during the program. 'ln making phone calls voting for your favorite disk jockey the audience is requested to follow this form: “Give the name of the disk jockey first, then your name, your address, then the amount you wish to contribute to the “March of Dimes.” For example: “I vote for Faulkner, my name is John Doe, I live at 601 High St., my gift is $5.00.” The phone number at WISH is Market 6345.
