Initial Assignment ToEuopean Command * Capt. Joe C. Tyler, commanding officer of the U. S. Army Recruiting Station today announced that effective Aug. 1, 1947 enlistments and reenlistments in the Regular Army for initial assignment to the European command (including Mediterranean) are authorized for personnel of the following categories: 1. Men from civil life who have had prior service in any of the armed forces (Army, Navy, Marine Corp, and Coast Guard). 2. Men whose current enlistments are terminating and who desire to reenlist immediately for ‘initial assignment to the European command. Enlistments and reenlistments for initial assignment to the European command are to fill shortages and are limited to applicants who hold no higher grade staff sergeant or technician "third grade. Enlistments and reenlistments for the European command must be for 3, 4 or 5 years and will be for “European Command Unassigned.” Individuals enlisting under WD pamphlet 12-16 whose prior service qualified them for enlistment only in the AAF will not be enlisted under this provision. Individuals whose prior service under WD pamphlet 12-16 qualifies them for service in other than AAF may be enlisted under these provisions but not higher than staff sergeant or technician third grade. Information may be obtained at the Recruiting Station.
