NAVY OPEN FOR TWO YEAR ENUSTMENTS New High Pay, Travel, Experience Terms of enlistment in the Regular Navy have been reduced to two and three year periods, it was announced today by Lieut. J. A. Sprowl, USN*, officer in charge of the Indianapolis and Indiana recruiting area. The new Navy Department directive reducing terms of enlistment and reenlistment also eliminated the need for custodial parents consent previously required for men 13 to 21 years of age. Parent’s consent is now necessary for 17 year old applicants only. « The relaxed requirements were made as a stimulant to the Regular Navy recruiting i drive now going on, and were arrived at as a result of a nation-wide survey conducted to determine the desires of eligible applicants. Specifically the changes were listed as follows: <a) Men reenlisting in the USN within three months from date of discharge from USN, may reenlist for a term of two, three, four or "six years at the option of the applicant; (b) Men enlisting or reenlisting in USN within three months from date of first demobilization discharge and separation as a member of USNR or USft-I after active service in World War II may enlist or reenlist for a term of two, three, four or six years; (c) All other applicants may enlist or reenlist in the USN for a term of three, four or six years only, at the option of the applicant. In all cases 17 year olds are eligible to .enlist for a minority period. In addition to the new high pay scales, travel, experience, and security available, the Navy announced that over 65 per cent of all personnel are being assigned to educational centers and training schools. Men interested in additional information regarding Regular Navy or Inactive Naval Reserve, Class V-6, enlistments are invited to write or call the U. S. Navy Recruiting Station, Post Office Building, Indianapolis, Ind.
