Carnation Sale (Continued frem page 1) record of her child’s service, in triplicate, with a notary seal on each copy. One of these records is kept on file in the State Chapter, one in the National, and one in the Local. The National Headquarters at this time are in Kansas City, Mo. The Carnation Sale was started in 1923 by the Kansas City chapter of the American War Mothers, to raise funds to further the work of the chapter for disabled iret--1 erans and their families. The sale* 1 was so readily supported, that it was a complete success. Paper carnations made in part by veterans and their families} were adopted as a national program by all chapters throughout the country. President Calvin Coolidge gave his unqualified endorsement of this program. “The day’s effort performed a great mission in moulding the sentiment even if the chapter had not realized a cent,” was a comment of a lead-' ing business man in praise of the sale. The money obtained from sale of the red and white carnations will be used for aid of veterans in Veterans’ Hospital, Cold Springs Road; Veterans’ Administration Hospital at Fort Benjamin Harrison; Veterans’ Hospital at Marion, and to aid veterans at Sunnyside.
