Those elected from Miss Middaugh’s room are: President, John Reidy; vice president, Marilyn Thomas; secretary-treasurer, Jody Piper. Twenty-one members of the Speedway band participated in the Marion County Clinic Band at Decatur Central Tuesday. The clinic band was composed of 120 members from eight schools. Nile Hovey of Arthur Jordan Conservatory directed the event and the evening concert was attended by approximately 300 people. Speedway’s drummers and twirlers were in attendance and were well received by the crowd. In intramural games this week Long’s team defeated Ed Such’s team 19-14 and Carter’s team won -over Finnerty’s team 24-14. Sixteen Speedway teachers have enrolled in graduate work at Butler University for the current term. Those who have enrolled are Mary Lou Knetzer, Louise Liebenderfer, Geneva Walter, Helen Noel, Hazel Smith, Blanche Wagle, Mildred Middaugh, Floyd Troth, Louis Trosky, Clyde Sallee, Charles Nay, Ralph Johnson, Hester Bland, Helen St. John, Thelma .Stout and Susan Keckler. Miss-Lieben-derfer, Mr. Troth and Mr. Trosky will receive their Master’s degrees this June. Miss Noel is enrolling in graduate work for the first time.”
Lucille Kessler and N. D. Cory have enrolled in graduate work at the Indiana University Extension Center for the second semester. Mr. Cory will complete his work at the extension center this semester, however, he will need to complete three courses on the campus at Bloomington and write a thesis in order to qualify for a doctorate in education. The Speedway basketball team r lost to Zionsville Friday night by a score of 42 to 35. The Sparkplugs will play their last home game tonight with New Augusta. The Sparkplugs will play at Washington High School in Indianapolis, Saturday night. The Speedway Sparkplugs are now in first place in the MidState Conference. A win over Decatur. Central will clinch the conference championship for the Sparkplugs. The Junior Classical League drive for the Infantile Paralysis Fund netted $121.34. High school

pupils and teachers donated $53.63 and elementary pupils and teachers gave $67.71. Katharine Ziegelmueller acted as chairstum of the drive and Sandra Long as assistant chairman. A large attendance is expected at the P.-T. A. meeting next Wednesday at 7:45 p, m. Mrs. Shank, state president of the P.-T. A., will speak. Parents may leave young children in the kindergarten room during the meeting. The debate teams are participating in a tournament at Indiana State Teachers College in Terre Haute today and tomorrow. Petitions for the bond issue for the new high school building will be circulated by the P.-T. A. within the next few days.

Harry Messersmith, Sr., has recently returned home from St. Vincent hospital after a serious operation. . Mrs. Orpha Arnold accompanied her brother Mr. Pat Barrett of Indianapolis to Woodburn, Ind., the first of the week for an extended visit with her sister, Mrs. Glen Henderson.
