SCHOOLJEWS (Continued from Page 1.) Nancy Forbes, president of Speedway Y-Teens was elected secretary of the Inter-Club Council at the Y. W. C. A. This group is made up of representatives from various Indianapolis Junior High groups. Several of the Speedway girls will serve at a large banquet at the “Y” Friday evening. The County Choral Festival will be held at Ben Davis High School March 25. Hie 50-voice Speedway High School Choir will sing in the massed chorus of oyer 500 voices and will present one number alone. Mrs. Bowers and Miss Shull will attend the Indianapolis In-and-About Music meeting and luncheon Saturday. Miss Shull is to be chairman of a discussion on elementary music. Harold Black will represent Speedway High School in the American Legion oratorical contest this year. In intramural games this week Carter’s team defeated E. Such’s team 17-15 in an overtime game and A. Such’s team won from J. Finnerty’s team 14-12 in ft double overtime. The high school basketball team lost to Warren Central last Friday night 47-34. The team journeys to Zionsville to play tonight Miss Hester Bland, girls’ physical education teacher, Mrs. Mary Grimes, school nurse, Miss Geneva Walter, second grade teacher, and 'N. D. Mrs. Nadolny. The school board is continuing its efforts to start construction on the ~ new high school building sometime early in May. Petitions for the bond issues will be circulated by the local P.-T. A. in February. Miss Helen Noel, new third grade teacher this year, has enrolled in graduate work at Butler University this semester. All Speedway teachers now hold four year degrees and 97 percent of the teachers have been or are enrolled. for graduate credit. All Speedway teachers have been

enrolled in college for credit since January 1, 1945. Recently the home economics I class prepared and served lunches. Group I composed of Pat Bender, Barbara Campbell, Sondra Bilsky and Betty Jean Robbins, had Mrs. Bowers as their guest. Group 11, Sandra Heston* Pat Ludwig, Shirley Graesch, Jean Cherry and Pat Bray entertained Mrs. Kessler and Miss Keckler. The Speedway Band will be represented in the annilal Marion County Band Clinic at Decatur Central High School Tuesday, February 4.
