Income Tax For Veterans Q. Are veterans’ benefits exempt? A. Yes. All veterans’ benefits are exempt, including terminal leave pay, disability compensation, pensions,* benefits under G. I. Bill of Rights, national service life insurance, and mustering out pay. The only thing which is taxable is retirement pay to a “regular” who is retired for age or any cause other than disability. Q. What about family benefits? A. All allotments and allowances received from service men by their dependents, are exempt from taxation. Q. Is civilian income of a veteran taxable? A. Yes. Income from civilian sources, whether earned during or after service in the anped forces, is taxable in the same way as that of a civilian. Q. How is service pay affected? A. The Indiana School Music Association has set the dates of the musical activities sponsored by that organization. The instrumental and vocal auditions will be held Saturday, (March 29 and the finals of these events will be held April 19. The band end orchestra contest will be held on April 12 with the finals being May 3. The next school vacation is scheduled for the first week in April. There will be a spring vacation of one week at that time.
