RED GROSS OFFERS NURSES’ AIDES TRAINING Volunteers willing to help with the care of the sick at the City Hospital are urged to join the new Red Cross Nurses’ Aide training class which will start early in October. Volunteers who desire to receive training as Nurses’ Aides are required to be between the ages of 18 and 50, a high school graduate or its equivalent, and must agree to serve at least 150 hours each year. Upon completion of their training, Aides will be assigned to duty in the wards, accident rooms and out-patient department at the City Hospital where they will work under the supeivision of graduate nurses. Duties performed by Nurses’ Aides include taking temperatures, pulse, respiration, making beds, giving baths and other assignments as directed by graduate nurses. * Enrollment at the class may be made by calling the Red Cross Volunteer Special Service Department, Lincoln 1441. “Learn to keep your wants simple. Q. Are there any exceptions to the ceilings'of $175 per month for a veteran without a dependent and S2OO per month for a veteran with a dependent or dependents? A. No. These ceilings apply to all types of training being taken under P.L. 346 as amended by P.L. 679. Q. What is meant by “compensation for productive labor” within the purview of P.L. 679? A. Compensation for productive labor as used in P.L. 679 includes wages, salary, commission, bonus or other payments received by a veteran by reason of his employment, whether self-employed or otherwise, and regardless of whether such employment is related to his training. Q. Will overtime pay be considered as part of the wages i earned by the veteran? A. Yes. The term wages means I wages from the standard work period of the establishment where the veteran is employed and will include overtime work customarily scheduled, but will not in-. elude occasional overtime beyond the standard work period of the establishment. Q. Will the veteran trainee have I to add such services as lodging,; meals, laundry and other services ' received as part of his compensation for productive labor, for example to a resident nurse or an agricultural trainee ,to the wages or salary in order to determine the amount of compensation received? A. Yes. It will be necessary to make an allowance representing the reasonable value of such service which will be added to the actual wages or salary in determining the amount of compensation received. The V.A. recommends that the state unemployment figures be used. Q. Will the veteran who was in training on August 8, 1946, have to return excess payments
