BELL TELEPHONE LABORATORIES RECEIVE AWARD For significant contributions to the research, development and engineering phases of the atomic bomb project, Bell Telephone Laboratories has received the 1946 Award for Chemical Engineering Achievement. < . Presentation was made ,at a dinner at the Waldorf-Astoria, New York, by the magazine “Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering,” which established the award in 1933 “to recognize group effort^ —particularly the sort of industrial achievement that results from teamwork between science and engineering.” Dr. O. E. Buckley, president of the Laboratories, accepted the award in behalf of his colleagues on the technical staff, several of whom were also present for the ceremonies. In all, some 35 members of, the Laboratories’ staff were engaged in the project. The committee making the award comprises the heads of chemical engineering in all the educational institutions accredited by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the Engineers Council for Professional Development. The exact nature of Bell Telephone Laboratories’ contributions may not be disclosed but its cost, in excess of half a million dollars, indicates its extent.

"On OUR Party Line SHORT Conversations make the Difference!"

Aw the families on our line use the telephone frequently. Long-drawn-out conversations would keep someone waiting quite a while, so we’ve put our party line on a “good neighbor” basis. We all got together and we all agreed to keep our telephone calls fairly short. It works out a lot better that way.
