ST. CHRISTOPHER’S CATHOLIC CHURCH Rev. L. A. Lindemann—Pastor Sunday Masses: „ , x 6:00 o’clock Weekday Masses...;.7:oo o’clock Members of the Altar Society and all the ladies of St. Christopher will receive Holy Communion at the 8:30 o’clock Mass Sunday. Remember the BAKE SALE is to be held this Saturday morning, April 13 th, in the'lobby of the Speedway Theater. Everyone is again requested to have all their baked goods and salads there by 10 o’clock, or BEFORE, as the sale is scheduled to begin at 10 o’clock. Again repeating, call Mrs. Raymond Vurpillat, Mrs. John Whitmore, or Father Lindemann for pick-up service. • ■ —— As you come acrots this or that which you don’t want or need any more while cleaning house, remember the Rummage Sale, May 12th and 13th. , ■ ...x. . . - The servers are asked to come to the Church Saturday morning at 8:30 for instructions in preparation for Holy Week services. Sunday is Palm Sunday on which Sunday The Passion of Christ is read and is the beginning of Holy Week. The palms will be blessed and distributed before the 10 o’clock High Mass. If you cannot attend the High Mass, or any’member of your family, you can secure your palm later as they will be placed in the back of the Church. Ladies will be stationed in the back of the Church at all the Masses to accept any offerings for flowers for the Altar for Holy Thursday and Easter Sunday. On Wednesday of next week, meat may be eaten once by everyone, the same as on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Holy Saturday is a day of fast and abstinence until twelve noon, when the Lenten fast ends. On Holy Thursday, the Blessed Sacrament is exposed for adoration from the closing of the Mass until Benediction at the evening service. On this day, it has long been •the custom for those who possibly can, to visit many churches, and to travel as much of the journey as possible on foot. On Good Friday is the Mass of the Presanctified. Holy Communion is not given on Good Friday. After the Mass, the Cross is placed at the foot of the Altar for veneration. The offerings on Good Friday are sent to the Pope to be used for the Holy Places. The collection on Easter is to be used this year, as has been done for many years in this Diocese, toward the education of boys for the priesthood. There are not many families who can afford the expense involved in the long years of study of their son for the Holy priesthood. Therefore, please be as generous as you can. We should always be ever so thankful that we live in a country where there is freedom of religion, and we should always thank Almighty God for the vocations to the priesthood. There are many attending the Mission services —in the mornings at Holy Mass, receiving Holy Communion, as well as the evening services. However, there is room for many more. Come yourself and bring someone with you—a Catholic or a non-Catholic friend. Non-Catholics are always welcome to the Missions, or to any of the services in a Catholic Church. On Tuesday morning, Father Gallagher’s instructions were on Prayer—the value of prayer—all can pray, the rich, the poor, the educated and the illiterate. One thing we should always remember —let us always be humble, because if there is anything Almighty God despises it is PRIDE. And when we pray, we should pray devoutly, and not let our thoughts wander. “He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much ...” —Nora Bray.

Sign A New Member this Month There are 16 million persons who have been made eligible for membership in The American Legion by their military or naval service in World War 11. More than a million of these 16 million have already joined The American Legion, and are preparing to put new pep and vigor behind the programs that the organization has been promoting for the benefit of community, state and nation this past quarter of a century- and more. That means there are still in the neighborhood of 15 millions’ of eligibles still available for mejnbership in the local posts all over the land. “Every member get a member in April” is the slogan suggested
by National Commander John Stelle when he initiated 3,000 new members of one class at the Cleveland, Ohio, Arena recently. Many posts are wondering where to put their new members, as their quarters—once so commodious—prove inadequate for the doubled and tripled membership they are now attaining. Putting a halt to membership effort will never solve the problem. Going out for more members will solve it—eventually. Once it is certain that new quarters or larger quarters are needed, the services of these new members in obtaining the funds or doing the work will be invaluable. They will be the more interested in the welfare of the post they have had a part in building. In addition, by getting all the members into the ranks now that you can, (Continued on Page 4.)
