Resolve Now; Relax Later “I wish that there were some wonderful place, In the land of beginning again Where all our mistakes And all our heart aches And all our poor selfish grief Could be dropped like a shabby old coat at the door. And never put on again.” When Mrs. Booth Tarkington wrote those lines, she probably didn’t realize how many people feel just the same way. At the close of a semester, some of us believe that we could have done a better job if we had only tried a little harder. Well, nothing can be done about this past semester now that it’s gone, but Monday we begin a fine new term just filled with opportunities. Now’s the time to join that club you’ve been thinking so much about. Here’s a chance to raise that average. And let’s not forget the little everyday things that we can do to make our school days.

nice ones to look back upon. Remember to pick out your goal and work toward it Those high grades you’re aiming at now will come in very handy in a few years when you’ll be working out your four-year averages. Neither is it too early to begin thinking about those honor society elections coming next fall. September will be too late to start working toward them. Let’s also resolve to be good sports and cheer the ones who make the societies, even if we and our friends are not among them. Yes, it’s never too early to get a good start. “Never put off until tomorrow what you can do today.” It’s a wise policy. *. Transit System Receives Praise Realizing the burdens placed upon the Indianapolis Railways system by wartime riding peaks and equipment and manpower shortages, citizens of the Hoosier capital were generous during 1945 in reporting commendations by letter and telephone concerning the transit service and operating personnel. Wayne Shepherd, of Highland station, who operates a trackless trolley on the Central avenue line, received more commendations than any other operator during 1945. This is * the second consecutive year Mr. Shepherd earned this distinction. During the year the transit firm not only received a large volume of letters and telephone calls reporting the courtesy, alertness and devotion to duty of a large number of operators, but the system likewise received many expressions of praise from riders, who expressed their high opinion of the service under such trying circumstances. .Many out-of-town visitors contacted the company to express their compliments. A typical letter, from a visitor from Dayton, Ohio, said, “As a stranger in your city, we Have chosen this means to convey to the administration, and the operating personnel of the Indianapolis Street Railways, this our modest and sincere expression of gratitude and appreciation for the fine services these individuals are daily rendering for the convenience and benefit of the public.” The second lieutenant approached the young man in the neatly j fitting uniform and asked: “What is the eighth general order?” “I don’t know,” said the other, j “Have you ever been on guard duty?” “Nope!” “Don’t you know enough to say ‘sir’ to an officer?”* “Nope!” / “What outfit are you in?” “I’m the Coca-Cola man.”
