For Children and Parents In War Stricken Europe So They May Keep Warm-Dry

Announcement has been made by former Governor Henry F. Schricker, chairman of the Indiana Sponsors for the Victory Clothing collection, that the campaign to collect used clothing for children and their elders in warstricken Europe will begin January 7. If you have any useable clothI ing and shoes tucked away in your attic or closet, now is the time to get them out and put all discarded clothing in useable order. Shoes should be tied together in pairs. Many children and their elders in war-stricken Europe could keep warm and "dry in the shoes and clothing that many Americans do not think “useable.” Mr. Schricker has pointed out that, in all, 100,000,000 garments are expected from the United States, and he further states that, we must- do our part. The people in those war-torn countries are trying to re-establish themselves in life and with not .enough clothing to keep them warm or decent. It is our duty to help them. Members of Mr. Schricker’s committee of the volunteer clothing collection are Dr. Roy Ewing Vale, pastor of the Tabernacle Presbyterian Church and former moderator of the Presbyterian Church in the U. S. A., and Paul G. Hoffman of the Studebaker Corp., South Bend.

Seemed Like IL Anyway! A boy we know who went thru the African and Sicilian campaigns was kept on in Sicily for almost a year. He liked it at first, but as month piled on month he became restive. Finally one day a fellow-soldier asked him where he came from. “I was born in Tennessee,” he said glumly, “but I grew up in Sicily.”

FIVE LITTLE WORDS

There are five little words, I’d have you know: They are “Pardon me,” “Thank you,” and “Please.” Oh, use them quite often wherever you go; There are few words more useful than these. These five little words are filled with a power That money or fame cannot give; So commit them to memory, this very hour, And use them as long as you live. Courtesy “The Try Square.”
