Volunteers Now Being Accepted In Marine Corps Will Receive Training At Marine Barracks in Parris Barracks, S. C. Indianapolis, Sepft. 7—Hoosiers now may volunteer for service with the U. S. Marines under a new plan for voluntary enlistment announced today by Ist Lt. C. A. Fort, officer in charge of Marine Corps recruiting and induction in Indiana. Lt. Fort said the plan for accepting volunteers is effective immediately and applicants now are being interviewed at the Indiana Marine Corps recruiting headquarters here and at the recruiting stations in Gary and Evansville. A MESSAGE TO THE PUBLIC • Effective next Saturday morning, September 15, a schedule of Uniform Fares will go into operation on all street car, trackless trolley and motor coach lines in the Indianapolis transit system. The uniform fare schedule, approved by the Public Service Commission of Indiana, has been authorized for a three-month trial period. The new fare schedule is as follows: BN ALL THROUGH LINES (street cars, trackless trolleys and motor coaches) Token fare . 8 tokens for 55c (6.875 c each) Cash fare . . 10c Transfers . . 2c (Transfers will be good between , all types of vehicles. Only one 2c transfer will be required for any city-wide trip. All additional transfers free.) ON ALL FEEDER BUS LINES Same token or cash fare as above. However, transfers will be FREE to and from all connecting through lines. Under the new schedule the following are classified as feeder lines: Brightwood feeder, Illinois-Clifton feeder, Illinois-Westfield feeder, W. Washington feeder, Drexel Gardens, Rockville Road, ArlingtonEmerson (Lukas Harold), Ravenswood, and West lOth-West Michigan. SUBURBAN BUS LINES The Beech Grove, Sunshine Gardens, and Post Road motor coach lines will be classified as through lines under the new schedule. This establishes the through line fares shown above on these lines, and ends the present zone fare system. OWL BUS LINES The present straight 10c fare will be ended, and the new owl fare will be the same as on all through lines. Age qualifications for enlistment in the Marine Corps vary according to prior active military service, Lt Fort explained. Leatherneck enlistment is open to men who have had no previous military service if they have passed their 17th birthday but have not reached their 26th birthday. Veterans of prior active military service who have not been separated from the service for more than a year may enlist if they are under 32 years of age.

Ex-Marines who re-enlist within 90 days of their discharge will be reappointed to the temporary rank they held at the time of their discharge. They also will ba granted the remainder of the 90day period as a re-enlistment fur. lough. Lt. Fort stated that enlistments will be accepted for the regular Marine Corps only. No volunteers will be enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve. Enlistment In the regular Marine Corps is for a four year period. In addition to meeting the physical requirements, all applicants for first enlistment in the Marines must have completed eight years'of school. Enlistees will receive recruit training at the Marine Barracks, Parris Island, S. C. If a conscience could be surgically removed, in many cases it would be classed as a minor operation.
