John Ray Ruddick Passes Away Had Been With The Bell Telephone Co. More Than 39 Years fl jgi JOHN RAY RUDDICK John Ray Ruddick, 5645 N. Delaware street, national treasurer of the American Legion and former secretary and treasurer of the Indiana Bell Telephone Company, died Friday, July 13, in his home after an illness of several months. He had been in the Bell Telephone System more than 39 years and retired July 1. Mr. Ruddick began telephone work with the Chicago Telephone Company in December 1905, as a clerk. He came to Indiana as division auditor of receipts for the Central Union Telephone Company, predecessor of Indiana Bell Telephone Company, in 1912. He was elected secretary and treasurer in 1938 and also was personnel director

Born in Shawneetown, 111., on June 21, 1880, Mr. Ruddick was a veteran of the Spanish-Ameri-can War and World War I, when he was a captain in a signal battalion in France. He had been national treasurer of the American Legion since 1935 and formerly had been a district adjutant in the Indiana department of the legion. He was a charter member of Bell Post No. 134 of the legion and served as post commander in 1936.
Grotto Sponsors Baseball Game To Aid Charity Group WiU Be Held Aug. 7 At Victory Field The Marion County Society for the Crippled, Inc., will be the winner of a baseball game at Victory Field Tuesday, Aug. 7, between the Indianapolis Indians and Minneapolis, when Sahara Grotto sponsors the event for the benefit of the organization. Members and all the uniformed groups of Sahara Grotto are endeavoring to pack Victory Field that evening. The band, drum corps, drill team, cast, revelers, Glee Club and American Legion Post will present “Sahara on Parade” bedecked in their brilliantly colored uniforms, for baseball fans and well-wishers of the Marion County Society for the Crip-
