“Clean Up—Fix Up Week” will be celebrated April 7-14, under direction of a special committee of the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce. George Gable is chairman. “In the interest of health and sanitation, fire prevention and a better looking city, all residents are asked to clean up their premises, send salvageable scrap, paper and tin cans to the proper places, and get trash ready for the city collectors,” Mr. Gable said. “The theme this year, as past, in view of the labor shortage is ‘Do It Yourself. Families should work as units to get this job done.”

It owns the three-story brick building at 30th and New Jersey streets, known as “Crossroads,” also the two-story annex facing 30th street. The Marion County Society for the Crippled is financed largely by the annual Easter Seal sale. It is the only agency in the city giving all kinds of service to physically handicapped individuals with all kinds of crippling conditions. The funds are used to provide service where funds or facilities of other agencies cannot reach. Houses Needed For War Workers ■ • An Urgent Plea Is Being Made Help find houses for war workers and service men was the plea made to residents of Indianapolis today by Mrs. Carl Manthei, director of Homes Registry, 120 Monument Circle. Not a single unrurnisned house or apartment is listed in her files, which means that hundreds of war workers coming here to take vital war jobs will have to give up those jobs, with a resulting slowing down of war production. New workers are being brought in, including executives and highly skilled professional workers. If they cannot find houses they will not stay to do the job that needs so badly to be done.
