School News (Continued froyi Page 1.) museum from 2 to 5 p. m., Sunday afternoon, March 11. All pupils and their parents are invited to visit the museum on Speedway’s Family Day. Speedway school athletes and Coach Johnson were honored at a dinner at the Homestead Tuesday evening. “Bo” McMillan, coach at I. U., gave the principal address and showed pictures of the Indiana-Michigan game.
The Business Education Club will honor the school athletes this evening at a dance in the high school gym. Speedway was made more aware of its team’s ability this season after the Danville team, which defeated us in the sectional finals, defeated Anderson. The Sixth Grade Safety Patrol had a basketball game last Thursday afternoon, March 1, in the high sohool gymnasium at 4:45 p. m. The two teams that played were the Bears and the Leopards. The captain of the Bears was Harold Kuykendall; the coach, Bob Wilson of the high school, the assistant John Nadolny. Charles Davis was the captain of the Leopards; the coach, Jim : Cherry of the high school, the assistant, Bob Ellis. The score was 24 to 12 in favor of the Bears. CovelL The yell leaders dressed in red and white for the Leopards were Delores Medenwald, Nancy Forbes and Mary Lou Hoss. On March 2 the third grade in Miss Walter’s room gave a program on Ways of Travel. Mrs. Edwards’ third grade and Mr. Northcott came to the program. The kindergarten room has four new pictures which were purchased by the P.-T. A. One large picture 'Going to School” shows the Three Bears getting ready for their first day at schooj/ Included in the group are two paintings designed by a Polish nun who is now a prisoner of the Nazis. The kindergarten wishes to .take this opportunity to thank the P.-T. A. for this picture.
The boys and girls and Mrs. Wagle wish to thank the P.-T. A. again for the lovely picture purchased for their room. The children and the teacher are very proud of them. The pictures are “We at Daybreak” and “The Vanguard.” Parents are invited to visit school and to see the pictures. The home economics classes had an exhibit from the Consumer Research Department of a business concern this week. We had sample dresses, hose, slips, home furnishings, rugs, linoleum, draperies, bedding, sheets, blankets, lighting information, table appointments (linens) and information on the care of clothing.
