A LETTER FROM ACRC Feb. 7,19* MEMIORS. Dear Ros: It will be some time before 'U get this but I’m expecting ou to be writing without recei 8 any these past days. I suppose you people won:er what we think about and say under these circumstances. We read of coujse and we do have movies aboard, but our favorite recreation is “bull sessions." It’s interesting to see the inside of these boys’ minds—what we 'ink and see. Bouncing around -he deck here are some of the things that come out: We were sitting there—or ’ere we lying? I guess our nc. descript pasture was half and half. There was Johnson, Shleaf ad I and a few others. Some? w a discussion of religion arose '■ hich gradually drifted into the <n rent racial prejudices. We all ha . our views. They differed some but you know how I can talk when I want to.' Well, I bound all of our ideas into one theme, rich, believe it or not, we all a reed on. I noticed that we al had a pretty good philosophy and a fear of God. There was a lull in the conversation, during which our eyes panoramed the spa ding sky. A velvety-smooth filling, spiced to perfection, cradled in flaky, mouth-melting pastry! One whiff of its spicy, old-fashioned richness brings the family scurrying to the table! The more luscious the fi.ang, the more important to have flaky, tender, delicate pastry. Get all the spicy goodness of this filling by making pastry to brag about—this easy, two-step way. Clip the recipe now, r and jot down what you need on the grocery list. Pilgrim Pumpkin Pie Mix thoroughly: 1% cups canned or cooked Pumpkin, 1 cup Brown Sugar (firmly packed), 1 ablespoon Flour, % teaspoon Szlt. M, teaspoon Cinnamon, and % teaspoon each Cloves, Nutmeg, Allspice, and Ginger.... Add 2 slight!? beaten Eggs and cups Milk and mix ■we11.... Pour into unbake Spry Pie Shell. Bake in hot oven (425° F.) 40 to 45 minutes, or unti knife inserted comes out clean. . . . Serve each wedge with a little Cheese Pumpkin made by shaping soft yellow cheese into a ball about the size of a walnut, ridging with a fork to look like pumpkin, and inserting a green “stem” of angelica. Spry Pie Shell Mix 1% cups sifted All-Purpose Flour and % teaspoon Salt. Measure out 7 tablespoons Spry and divide into two equal parts. Step 1 for Tenderness— cut in first half of Spry until as fine as meal. Step 2 for Flakiness —cut in remaining Spry until particles are size of large peas. < . Add 3 tablespoons cold ’ater, mixing thoroughly into a dough. Roll 5 3 inch thick. Fit pastry into pan. Trim 1 inch larger than pan and turn bad: edge. Flute rim.
