This paper is owned and published by civic-minded Speedway business and professional men. It is distributed every Friday to every home in Speedway. It is strictly a SPEEDWAY paper. It has been distributed in Speedway for over thirteen years. It is operated in a co-operative fashion —Speedway business men, the town officials, the school, the Speedway churches, all local dubs and civic groups, in fact the entire town of Speedway contributes to this community enterprise. Everyone concerned with the management of the paper lives in Speedway and is interested primarily in the best interest of Speedway. RAILWAYS WIN SAFETY AWARD "nflianupnlii Railways Racatvaa Safety Plaque The service fleet of Indianapolis i Railways was recently declared winner of the utility division of the 1943-44 Fleet Safety Contest which is sponsored annually by the Indianapolis Chamber of I Commerce Safety Council. This fleet includes the trucks and other vehicles operated by Indianapolis Railways to keep the transit system in operation. These vehicles are operated by the line, track, power, inspection and bus, department of Indianapolis Rail- 1

ways. The period of the contest was from July 1, 1943, to June 30, 1944. During this one year period the service fleet, which includes approximately twenty-six vehicles, operated a combined distance of 157,578 miles through the busy streets of Indianapolis with only two accidents, both of which were minor in nature. The transit firm conducts a constant safety campaign among operators of its passenger and service fleet. This new award is one of many safety citations Indianapolis Railways has received in recent years. “A good beginning and a good ending make a good speech—if they are near enough together.”
