DID YOU KNOW that the United War Fund drive is under way. Your contribution to this organization helps support the local charities as well as the USO and other services for the fighting men. . . . There are 70 words in the Lord’s Prayer. Seven of those words have to do with material things and all the rest are our relation to God. ... In the past year there has been more money available for Sunday School work than ever before, but in spite of increased funds the attendance has had a decided decline. . . . Sousa was commissioned to write his famous Washington Post March in 1889 by the Washington Post, a newspaper of the Capitol, and it since has become one of the most popular marches in musical history. . . . Ethel Barrymore made her debut in her new radic show, “Miss Hattie,” attired ir. a black satin gown and wore a three-strand choker of real pearls . . . . WPB reports that one-fourth more metal toys can be expected this Christmas, but most toys will, still be made of wood and cardboard. . . . Last Saturday while doing my marketing I had neither basket or shopping bag to carry my groceries home in, and the grocer had to give me one of his precious paper bags that are so hard to get owing to the paper shortage. The grocei mentioned the fact that I had been stressing in my column the saving of paper, fats, etc., to help the war effort, and I immediately ■thought that I didn’t practice what I preached. So I feel that I had it coming to me, but you can bet your donuts that this ga.‘ will take her little basket her next time she shops. The incident worked two ways: it als let me know that the busy business men are reading my pooefforts.
