ST. CHRISTOPHER’S CATHOLIC CHURCH Rev. L. A. Lindemann.Pastor Sunday Masses: 6:00 o’clock Weekday Masses.7:oo o’clock At the eight-thirty o’clock Mass, Sunday, the young people of St Christopher will receive Holy Communion. St Christopher has lost its first son, and one of its youngest in the War. The parents of Armand Joseph Heritier of the U. S. Marine Reserve Corps have received word from the Government that their son has been killed in action in the south vest Pacific. Your prayers are requested for the repose of his soul. Our deepest sympathy is offered to the parents, and to the brothers and sisters. Mr. and Mrs. Heritier have two other sons in the Service of our country. Next week is Ember week; however, since our #lost Reverend Bishop has dispensed with abstinence and fastings on all days except Fridays, and a few very special days, for the durathe War, meat may be eaten on Wednesday and Saturday next week. r S' Father Lindemann announced Sunday that there is to be a Mission at St. Christopher the firsl week in October given by Reverend Francis W. Dalton, C. S. S. R., .a Redemptorist Missionary from Lebanon, Indiana. He is the same Father who was in charge of the 40 Hour Devotion last year. The Mission will begin with the 10 o’clock High Mass on Sunday morning, October Ist, and end October Bth. Each evening service will be for the whole family, and there will be a short talk or instructions each morning following the early Mass. Religious articles will be offered for sale during the Mission, and an opportunity will be given to have them blessed by the Missionary Priest. Each and every member of St. Christopher is asked to attend as many of the Mission services as is possible, and bring with them their non-Catholic friends. On Sunday morning, October Bth, at the 8:30 o’clock Mass, which will be a High Mass, the fathers and sons will receive Holy Communion. Following the Mass, there will be a Com.rrninion bpeaEf&st served downstairs in the Parish Hall for them.'lt is hoped that every man will attend. If his son is too young, or is away, or if he-doesn’t have any son, he should borrow someone else’s son, or if not that, then just come down The annual public novena to St. Theresa, the Little Flower of Jesus, will be held, as usual, at Little Flower Church on Bozart Avenue, Indianapolis beginning Monday, September 25th, and closing on Tuesday, October 3d. If you can’t attend allot the services, or even if you can’t attend any of the services, why not say each day of the Novena the novena prayers and receive Holy Communion frequently in your Parish Church. Little Flower of Jesus always seems so close to us, as she was living in France when a great number of us today were growing up. It is written th®/St. Theresa has said, ‘T will spend my Heaven in doing good upon earth. After my death I will let fall a shower of roses.” And St. Augustine has said, “It is lawful to ask what it is lawful to desire.” “And all things whatsoever you shall ask in prayer, believing you shall receive.”—St. Matthew 21:22. nora bray

Speedway Football Season Our Speedway boys open their football season tonight at the Speedway Stadium. In the past our school has £iven Speedway some mighty good advertising with its athletic teams. Last year the team was both county and conference champions and in 1942 the team was county champion. This was nv six-man football; this year the school branches out into the regulation eleven-man game. Knowing Coach Ralph Johnson as I do and the spirit of the boys on the team, I’m sure they will again have a winning team. Let’s all of us show our appreciation and interest in the team and the school by attending all the games possible. For the opener against Greenwood tonight, get up a party, come to the game, and help fill the stadium. —A Speedway Fan.

SPEEDWAY CHRISTIAN CHURCH The Rev. Howard Anderson. Minister SUNDAY SERVICES: 9:15 A. M.Church School and WcrajriP 11:00 Starting next Sunday we will introduce two complete services at the morning hours. The first service will begin at nine-fifteen o’clock and dismiss at ten thirty-five o’clock. The fully graded church school classes will convene promptly every Sunday morning at 9:15 A. M. All classes from the Junior-Hi age upward will meet in the sanctuary at 9:45 A. M. for the service of divine worship. It will be noticed that there is no change contemplated in this first hour except that the classes meet fifteen minutes earlier than formerly. The second service will begin at 11:00 A. M. promptly. Those who are. attending this service are asked to arrive not earlier than 10:50 o’clock. This request is made in order feat the ushers may clear the church properly following fee first service. An innovation this year will be that church school classes will be held at eleven o’clock for the children of those who prefer the later hour of worship. There will be classes conducted by competent teachers in the Nursery, Beginners and Primary departments. It is anticipated that many folk will find the eleven o’clock hour more convenient than the first service thus relieving the crowded conditions which have prevailed up till now. There were 521 people present in one service last Sunday. We anticipate a peak attendance of 700 people this year and we hope to divide this group rather equally between the two services. Our minister has announced his subjects for next Sunday as follows: The first service, “The Calf of Gold, Modern Symbol”; the second service, “How To Prepare For A Church Service”. Our soloist will be Mrs. Armstrong who will sing “It Was for Me.” The Chancel Choir will sing the first service and fee Children’s Chorale will sing the second service. The children will sing a Bohemian Chorale from the seventeenth century, “Once He Came In Blessing”. Los Amigos Class will meet for the first fall dinner tonight, September 15th, at the church. This will be a “carry-in” dinfamily feawid ifa own fanduuriLtableservice The time of the dinner will be 6:30 o’clo<£. The Senior Christian Youth Fellowship group will gather for the first fall meeting next Sunday night, September 17th. The program will open with a Pot Luck Supper at six o’clock. The boys will furnish the dessert and the girls will bring sandwiches or a covered dish. After the supper, Miss Betty Nay will preside at a brief business meeting at which time fee freshmen will be inducted into the group. Miss Agnes Spencer will begin the first of three discussions on the problems of modern etiquette for young people. Mrs. Mary Gaskill of 4921 West 15th St. will entertain the Golden Rule Bible Class Tuesday evening, September 19th, at seven-thirty o’clock. All those who have volunteered to serve on the calling committee for the fall program will meet at the church Friday evening, September 22nd, for destruction and assignments. The hour of meeting will be seven-thirty. We are happy to welcome four young people into the membership of our church: Dee Covell, Nancy Covell, Caryl Covell and Joan Cherry. The annual men’s dinner will be held at the church Friday evening, Oct. 6th. All men of the congregation are asked to save this night for" the church.
