HARMONIC BEAUTY As I strolled down a lane one evening in June I saw many ladies were there. All beautifully dressed in colors galore And some were in white; - and were fair. As the sparkling dew at earliest dawn While the red bedecked ones shone as bright As the dazzling gems in a queen’s golden hair Or the stones in her ear lobes at night!

The ones dressed in white were nodding to those Who wore brilliant frocks—and I know While there were countless gowns in rainbow hues There were as many—in softest moon glow!

They all semed so friendly, swaying at ease With a nod here and there, not a care Nor unfriendly feeling had any of those Just peace and good will—everywhere!

And I pondered as I slowly retraced my own steps How many of us—really know That our daily lives reflect our own souls Like the ladies—down HollyHock Row.

Why Not Waffles?

—By Frsnces Lee Barton—— 1 warrANT a change? Why not VV serve waffles? They are easy to prepare and neither your

family nor your guests will refuse them. The only argument against serving them is that there are so many calls for second helpings >— but after all, 'that’s pleasing

to a hostess even though It calls for additional labor. Crisp Waffles 3 cups sifted cake flour; 2 tear spoons double acting baking powder; % teaspoon salt; 3 egg yolks, well beaten; 1 cup milk; M cup melted shortening; 2 egg whites. Sift flour once, measure, add baking powder and salt, and sift again. Combine egg yolks, milk, and shortening; add to flour, beating until smooth. Beat egg whites until they will hold up in moist peaks. Stir quickly but thoroughly into batter. Bake in hot waffle iron. Makes four 4-section waffles.

Now for the recipe of the week. It is for a very tasty dish that can be used as a main dish. We call it Italian Spaghetti. 1 box spaghetti. % pound bacon. I large onion sliced. % green pepper chopped. 1 cup chopped celery. No. 2 can tomatoes. 1 teaspoon sugar. Salt to taste. Grated cheese. Cook spaghetti until tender. Drain, do not rinse. Dice bacon and fry until crisp. Remove fat.

Suits will again be a “must” in everyone’s wardrobe. * ■h * Y' Invasion Prayer Thou God of great understanding, In Thy spacious dwelling place, there, Dear God, lead our boys safely through this; Be near them is our daily prayer. Give them strength, dear God, and endurance, Guide them safely*—each step of the way; Let them know in the depth of Thy mercy Love of God is with them to stay. May we all learn Thou canst ease a heartache, . Make a burden a bit lighter to bear— Thou God of great understanding Hear Lord, our petition of prayer! ANNA E. YOUNG.
