Good Care Makes Bedding Last Long er
DEDDING is too scarce to handle carelessly these wartime days, since civilian supplies of sheets, blankets, mattresses and pillows have been cut to meet military needs. But beds can still be comfortable and neat looking if given good care, Mae Ferris points out in the Rural Home Section of nationally circulated Capper’s Farmer. Here is her advice on how Mamma, Dad and the Kids can cooperate: “Pillow fights may be fun, but feathers are scarce. The govern-

They can romp elsewhere. “Don’t keep the wringer running if distracted. Shut it off before attending to Junior’s nose or answering the telephone—then sheets have no chance to get twisted. Careful laundering can add months to the life of your linens. Strong soaps and excessive bleaches will

Hand Painted Fabrics Add Novelty Note Handpainting on fabrics, on felt or straw hats, on handbags, belts and gloves is making a most flattering contribution to fashion this season. Just a touch or artistry done with brush and paint, and a simple fabric is turned into a material of beauty and distinction. Many of the new blouses are decorated with hand-painted florals. Also such whimsical ideas as a trio of butterflies painted on the bodice top, are carried out. Sometimes a flower cluster is painted, one on the blouse or bodice, the other on the skirt. A Warm Water Hint Use warm water to dampen clothes. Westinghouse home economists report that it spreads through the fabrics more quickly.
