Junior Baseball Proves Popular • Junior baseball has been organized in Speedway under the sponsorship of the Speedway Lions Club. Two teams, A and B, are practicing each week in preparation for league play which win begin shortly. The “A” team is managed by Harold Douglas and the “B” by Bob O’Neal. Blythe Miley of Jr. Baseball, Inc., is assisting in coaching each team.
All boys in Speedway are eligible for the teams which are separated by age groups. The “A” team age limit is for boys 14 years 11 months to 17 years 11 months. The “B” team is for boys under 14 years 11 months. Any boy in Speedway interested in signing up should contact one of the managers. Both teams are to be outfitted in new uniforms. The Lions Club is purchasing the B uniforms and the Speedway Merchants are buying the A uniforms. The B team played a practice game last Friday and defeated Holy Angels by a 10 to 7 score, with Boyer, pitching and Jackie Fulton, catching. Games are scheduled for the “B” team at Grande Park at 5:30 p. m. on June 9 and June 13. The “A” team’s first league game will be played at Ben Davis diamond on Friday, June 16, against Weeks Market. All citizens of Speedway are welcome to attend the practices and games which are held at the High School or Grande Park diamond. A bulletin board has been placed in Skidmore’s barber shop. Watch this board for notices of the teams’ activities. Come out and back the teams.
Where You Will Serve On Active Duty As A WAVE Like any member of the Navy, you will be assigned to duty where you are most needed. Among the possibilities are Miami, San Diego, Norfolk, Washington, D. C., Boston, Chicago, the air bases at Corpus Christi, Pensacola, and Jacksonville, one of the Naval hospitals or any other Naval shore establishment in the U. S. A. Though you will not select the base where you will be stationed, you will be asked your preference of location among the stations to which your class can be assigned. And wherever you go, you’ll be a part of the Navy community. You’ll feel at home with your own kind of people— Navy men and women you’ll be proud to call your friends. YOUR OFF-DUTY TIME On “shore leave”—free time—you may have dates with men in uniform or civilians. You may play tennis or hockey, go skiing or swimming, or dancing. You’ll have opportunities to go sightseeing, to attend lectures, to study. Your off-duty time is your own.

JUST taking a doth and wiping off your Electric refrigerator and other labor-saving appliances won't keep them working. It takes more than that. There are certain easy rules for the care of each Electric appliance from an Electric range and refrigerator to your Electric iron, and well be glad to furnish instructions to you for the appliances you have. Yes, by giving your appliances proper care you’ll have less repair—but if something should go wrong, have it repaired at the very first sign of trouble. Most appliances not too badly damaged can be put in good working order. If you now have any that are out-of-fix, bring them in for repair so they can again serve you in your home. Remember your present appliances will have to outlast the war.
