CARROLL GLENN WITH INDIANAPOLIS SYMPHONY A tiny violin from Sears- Roebuck, costing $3.80 was the firs! favorite instrument of Carroll Glenn, youthful and brilliant violin .’st who will appear with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra this week end at the Murat Theater. Her mother, after watching her struggle and saw on this tin model, gave her a one-eighth-size violin and she joined the fun of fiddling for square dances in South Carolina. This little instrument, ornamented by marks on the chin rest from tears rolling off a very snub nose, was kept by the artist until recently when it was destroyed by

Carroll Glenn fire in her New York apartment But from that catastrophe she lovingly rescued the $30,000 GuadagDini which she keeps by her bed every night whever she sleeps. Miss Glenn’s parents ‘ first sent her to the University of South Carolina for her music lessons, and then at 11 she was enrolled at the JulIjard Music School in New York—the youngest student there. She experienced the unusual distinction of being the first American student to win all four of the major prizes for promising musicians in this country. And finally, in three short seasons, Miss Glenn has become nationally famous, playing 61 performances last year, 28 of them symphony orchestras. For this sensational success she received recognition from three national magazines, Newsweek, Mademoiselle and The American Magazine. On the program which Fabien Sevitzky will conduct this Saturday evening, February 26 and Sunday afternoon, February 27, Miss Glenn will play the Sibelius Violin Concerto. Other numbers include the Mozart Symphony No. 39, the Euphrosyne Overture by Converse, Griffes’ ‘Pleasure Dome of Kubla Khan” and “Don Juan” by Strauss. The next Municipal Concert will take plpce next Thursday, March 2, in the Murat Theater. The Indianapolis Symphonic Choir, whose choral director is Elmer Steffen, will sing, and guest soloist will be Nell Tangeman, mezzo-soprano. Reservations for the week end subscription concerts, and for this Municipal concert may be obtained now at the Murat box office.
