NEWS FROM SPEEDWAY SCHOOLS A number of our fellow students have entered the County Golf Tournament, which will be held at The Speedway Golf Course, May 28th. Here’s hoping they have good luck. As the year is coming to a close, the Juniors are working very hard to give the best Junior and Senior Reception. It is to be held at the Indianapolis Country Club. ' On Monday May 25th, twentyseven seniors, some glad and some sad, will receive their diplomas. The speaker of the evening will be Mr. K. V. Ammerman, who is speaking on “Lampposts and Danger Signals”. The eight grade commencement will take place Thursday at 10:30 A. M. when thirty-seven eighters will receive their eighth grade diplomas. The Seniors as a whole all being very good students had a rather hard time choosing their Valedictorian and Salutatorian, but after very careful selecting they chose, Novella Northcott as Valedictorian and Betty Nay as Salutatorian. LOCAL STUDENT WINS READERS DIGEST AWARD Novella Northcott, valedictorian, of the graduating class at Speedway High School, has been given the award of The Reader’s Digest Association for students who by their successful school work give promise ot attaining leadership in the community, it was announced today by N. D. Cory, Superintendent. Miss Northcott has received an honorary subscription to The Reader’s Digest for one year and an engraved certificate from the Editors, “in recognition of past accomplishment and in anticipation of unusual achievement to come.” Since 1937 The Reader’s Digest Association has presented these awards yearly in senior high schools throughout the United States and Canada to the highest honor student of the graduating class. The awards are part of the educational program sponsored by the Association and were a logical outgrowth of the wide use of The Reader’s Digest in school work.
