Buzzing by “BUZZ” It’s Friday again and here we go on another round of the school’s doings Last Friday afternoon the track team and Mr. Nay traveled to Danville to participate in the Midstate Conference track meet. The schools represented in the conference were Central of Lawrence, Danville, Brownsburg, Plainfield and Speedway. Central took first place and received a gold trophy which was presented to Captain “Pete” Negley: Brownsburg, second; Danville, third; and Speedway and Plainfield, tie for fourth. Steele Roberts placed first in the low hurdles.
Monday afternoon the Home Economics Department presented a style show. Several outfits were modeled by the girls of the club. The clothes were made by the Butterick Pattern Co., from Block’s and were representative of the high school girl’s wardrobe. The Salutatorian and Valedictorian for the senior class of 1942 have been appointed. Betty Nay will give 1 the welcoming address and Novella Northcott will give the farewell. The class History will be read by Marcy Mann, the Will by Lolita Schoenewey, and the class Prophecy by Marjorie Sauer. When is all this to take place? On the 19th of May. Don’t forget. Everybody’s invited. Big doings tonight! Are you coming? If you’re a lover of music, you’ll be on hand tonight at the high school gym at 8 o’clock. What is it? The Speedway Musicale. Yes, it’s back again. One of those nice things that everybody enjoys. The school band and chorus, as well as all the other muscial organizations in Speedway, will each do their share to make this a really musical evening. I’ll see you there tonight. Class meetings were held Wednesday afternoon and all the classes are winding up the year into a grand way. Well, what do you know? It’s time for this paper to go to press. See you next Friday ....
