GRAND OPERA AT I. U. AUDITORIUM Music enthusiasts here have received word that grand opera is to be available for the first time to residents of southern Indiana, April 23 and 24 when Indiana University, utilizing its new Auditorium, presents the famous San Carlo Opera Company in a “Spring Opera Festival.” The San Carlo Company of 150 singers, ballet dancers and orchestra members will present “Carmen” on April 23 and “Madame Butterfly” on pril 24. Coe Glade, Sydney Rayner, formerly of the Metropolitan Opera of New York, and Mostyn Thomas, Welsh baritone, will have the leading roles in “Carmen,” with Hizi Koyke, noted Japanese soprano will have the title role in “Madame Butterfly.”

The appearance of the San Carlo Company at I. U. was made possible by a break in the organization’s schedule between Milwaukee and Pittsburgh, and will be the first time it ever has been seen in Indiana except several years ago in Indianapolis. Local music followers, including a number of students in the high school, have begun to make plans to attend one or the other, or both, of the operas, and several opera parties already have been formed. I. U. has declared popular prices for both operas, tickets being obtainable through the University Ticket Office at Bloomington.
